Club Runs - 5th August

Well, that was a damp squib of a Sunday, eh? No UK club runners due to the weather and people were even spotted on Zwift again. But some people did venture out, there was a Beacon A(ustralia) ride with Barry Evans and Laurence Cooley from Brisbane, and we would recommend these rides for some guaranteed warmth! Congrats to Matt Clegg, Carolyn Clegg (no relation), Andy Cole and James Tate for their RideLondon adventure, where the rain and cold showed up again...unlucky chaps.

but almost top kudos goes to Adam Green and Stuart White who started the Transcontinental Race from Belgium to Greece yesterday, and as at 13:30 today had both travelled 295kms albeit on different roads, so a lovely first-day statistic!

Top kudos goes to Geraint Thomas...fantastic to see another British winner of the Tour de France, and it's amazing how my 50% welsh-ness seems more pronounced today.

The weather forecast this week is for a long, hot weekend, so be great to get a full complement of club riders out. There are long A (200kms) and C rides (100 miles) planned this week, so this is ideal for a more 'normal' length B-ride to be planned, so step forward and suggest this, so we have something to offer for everyone this Sunday. Yes, I am aware that I'm mixing my units on the A and C rides, so if someone wants to plan a B-ride measured in furlongs or fathoms, please do so.

This week's rides are:

A: Honeybourne/Banbury 200kms ride - Chris Ashford (07:15 meet for 07:30 start)
B: Kenilworth - Phil Gameson (normal 09:15 start)
C: The revisited '100 miles in however long it takes' - Andy Terry (8.15 start)

A Ride - Tramping Two (Hundred) Loops Audax - 07:30 Departure

A-Ride = "Tramping the Two Loop" Audax 07:15 for a 07:30 departure from Black Horse

We will be participating in the Tramping the Two Loops Audax on Sunday. The route takes us from Barnt Green - Honeybourne - Banbury - Honeybourne - Barnt Green, rather than the two loops from Honeybourne.

Audax Entry - http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/18-241/

Audax Route Notes - https://docs.google.com/document/d/17YN ... sp=sharing

Route - Starting from Black Horse 07:30 - https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/19924670

We need to start with the two controls at Barnt Green (receipt) and Himbleton (info) before heading to Honeybourne (event HQ) for first stop. Please bring £7.00 cash for entry on the day if you haven't entered already, as we will be using the Honeybourne HQ for our fuel stops.
As we are starting at a mid-point our main fuelling points will actually be 1/4 and 3/4 of the ride, with a quick stop for the control in Banbury.

Main stops will be:
059km - Honeybourne Village Hall (Event HQ)
110km - Banbury Control (Tesco Express?)
164km - Honeybourne Village Hall (Event HQ)

Hope for good weather and / or favourable tailwinds!

Hi Andy

I have to be back in Brum for mid-day so intend to cut off at Croome and make a fast return if that's ok with you?

I will lead a B run to Kenilworth:
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/be ... kenilworth
You probably won't be able to view the route, but it should download OK.
It is just under 55 miles with exactly 1000m of climbing - a bit undulating rather than big hills.
I don't intend to set a particularly fast pace, but it will be quicker than a C run.
Usual 9:00 for 9:15 start.
Forecast is 19 degrees at 9, 26 degrees by 2pm.

The '100' route:

Please put it on your Garmins so we can take turns leading.

And don't forget it's an 8.15 start

Sorry Ash it doesn't look as though we have a volunteer leader for an Intro Ride tomorrow. I've led the last two but am committed to the 100 miles ride.

There were only four of us on the B run today, and not only did I manage not to lose anyone, I also managed not to lose the list either:
Phil Gameson (leader)
Huan Dong
Mark McConkey
Mark Gardner

[Phil R - The two marks were missed off my list from two weeks ago. Aide McHugh may also be one of the other missing names.]

We suffered two "closures", one being a bridge near Hatton that would have meant negotiating a barbed wire fence multiple times, and the other being the "Cherry Tree Café". This is the second time this café has been closed - probably worth double checking it will be open if using again.

We averaged about 15.5mph, which was a bit of a challenge for one of the Marks'.

Thanks Phil. I'm glad there's evidence that I was on the ride as my Garmin is refusing to sync with Strava!

Great day out on the "tramping the two loops" audax for the Beacon A Run. A cool start, quickly lead to a very hot and sunny afternoon with many struggling as the temperatures hit over 30c. Still better than 0c and driving rain though...

Andy Wrightson (winner of most combatative rider - due to starting with 4 cracked ribs) unfortunately had to be persuaded to board a train at Banbury to make his way back to brum for his own health. Note to Andy: We aren't in the TdF - no prizes for riding / finishing with injuries;-)

I will pop a route / audax review on the appropriate thread tomorrow - but it is definitely well organised, accessible to all, and a good route with a few challenging climbs on route to Banbury. And the sandwiches and cake weren't bad either!

On ride were:
Chris Ashford - Leading
Phil Richards
Vince Tennant
Jon Williams
Kevin Young
Ian Simpson
Andy Wrightson

Does that mean that Simon Turner and myself also get club run points as we did the Tramping of the Two Loops Audax to?

Were you part of the Beacon A Ride @Alan Weaver?! Nope - therefore no club run points for you! ;-)

I think @Phil Richards is being kind to you though...

Team work = Dream work for the next ride!
