Club runs - 19th August

Wonderful news that both our Transcontinental racers have finished in the last few hours. Adam Green and Stuart White finished within a few hours of each other, and remarkably, they both had exactly the same average moving speed (20.8kph) over the 4,000kms of the race. There have been tales of misery, wild dogs, lack of sleep, excessive heat and inhospitable gravel tracks so good to hear that they enjoyed themselves, eh? :D . This has been a joy to follow and the heartiest of hearty congratulations to both of you!!

It puts Sarah Dowden's 600kms audax, and me, Simon Woodward, Chris Ashford and Jon Williams' 300kms audax at the weekend into perspective...we really need to up our game.

The weather on Sunday was not good again, so numbers were down on the club runs, but thanks to Nick, Andy and Dave for leading the three rides. It really is appreciated when people step forward to led club runs, they are the lifeblood of Beacon cycling, so let's keep them active, different and fun. It's up to us.

Anyway, this week's ride leaders and destinations will no doubt fill up in the week.

A: Chipping Campden - Phil Richards (meet at 08:15, for 08:30 start)
B: Hillers - John Hitchcock/Phil Gameson
C: Hillers - Dave Cole

Ok, I'll lead the A-ride this week...It will go to Chipping Campden, on a route similar to this:
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/16802301

This route is just shy of 125kms and as it's still summer, we'll meet at 08:15 for an 08:30 start.

Can't promise that Stuart White or Adam Green will be there, but there's bound to be people that come along who are so exciting, the miles will fly by...

The café discussion will focus on your favourite weather to cycle in...just to put it out there, mine is sleet.

There was a good turnout at the Black Horse for 9:15 this morning, so In the end there was B run of sorts today.
Dave Cole suggested that the B run also go to Hilliers at Dunnington.
John Hitchcock agreed to lead on the way out (he was not going back to the Black Horse afterwards).
I agreed to lead on the way back, hoping that I could find my way back without a planned route.
On the way out were
John Hitchcock (leader)
Phil Gameson (leader)
Mark Connell
Neil Evanson
Eugene Farrell
Luca Tinnirello
Chris Jackson
Alex Rybinski
[Neil returned with the C ride, who arrived at the café just in time to take our soon to be vacated seats.]

The ride back was relatively uneventful, apart from one **flat** - I took a fairly direct route so that it wouldn't matter if I went a bit wrong. I think it was just over 50 miles in total, with an average speed of 16.0mph.

A speedy and pleasant run out to Chipping Camden saw 9 make it to the town via the one snorter of a hill, and 5 others breaking off to Wellesbourne, thereby missing said snorter.

Those at Chipping Campden were:

Sir Chris Bonnington
Jamie Brookes
Paul Johnson
Neil Lynch
Phil Richards (leading)
Nick Shenton
Steve Tudor
Joe Worwood
Andy Wrightson ‘The Ribanator’
Kevin Young

And to Wellesbourne were:

Keith Adcock
Matt Regan
Ian Taylor
Nic Vipond
...a mystery fifth person, can I have the name please?

I'd be interested to know what the Snorter is so that I know what to avoid in future

The snorter is Larkstoke Hill, Dave, which is just west of Ilmington, and heads south towards Ebrington. It's similar to Dovers Hill, but much less well known
