Club runs - 9th December

Another 21 people out on club runs on Sunday, which was a good effort as at least 10 of those were also out at the Beacon Awards Dinner the night before. Perhaps, Andy Wrightson wins the performance of the week - out on a 200kms audax on Saturday in the rain, quick change, out at the Beacon Dinner till after 1am, then also on the A-run the next day. Make sure you all sing Roy Castle's 'Dedication' to him the next time he cycles past you, belting out 'Jolene'. Great stuff.

It was also noted that Jess, Roger, Ian, Keith and Xav were also at the dinner, and also at Castle Coombe in Wiltshire early the next day for a closed circuit TT...well done all, some good times there considering the wet and windy conditions and it being December n'all. Finally, there was also a good Beacon contingent out at the Cross racing at Cobhouse...Well done all, I enjoyed seeing the photos of you cycling on grass. Whatever next? People will be riding on banked wooden boards next... :?

Of course, this was balanced by people being out at the Beacon dinner, then simply festering in their bed until noon, before eating chocolate in a dressing gown all afternoon, watching a re-run of Columbo. Club run points will be given if you have a time-dated photo of you in in your Pingu the Penguin dressing gown. Simply post here to claim your point. It has to be Pingu, though, no other mammals, birds or fish qualify according to my reading of club run rules.

It's the Beacon AGM this Thursday, why not come along and express an opinion.

This week's rides are:

A: Warwick - Paul Johnson
B: Leader and destination required
C: Stourport - George Barker

I've added that to the agenda, Phil. A fine AOB point to discuss after the finances.

...and talking of sex...er Audaxes, don't forget to enter either the Sunrise/Snowdrop audax as soon as you can. This event is on February 23rd next year, and looking like another sell out, especially if we get more entrants that we have spaces :D .

Those not riding will be forced to help out at Whitlenge HQ, by slopping out the stables or weeding the south lawn.

Oh, and can we have a B-ride leader come forward please, to give Phil Gameson a week off...

Philip if this is true you're doing it wrong!!

In unrelated news the A run will be about 60 miles route to be decided 5 mins before we leave.

Solihull CC have extended an invitation to the Beacon RCC to meet at Lowsonford Village Hall (by the Fleur De Lys pub) on the 9th from 10.45am for mince pies, cake, coffee or soft drinks. They will be raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care. If you attend please take some dosh and support the charity; they hope to raise £500.

Mariana, I haven't worked out a route yet. However, I normally aim for a total riding time of 3.5 to 4 hours. At this time of year, the C run is unlikely to average more than 21-22kph, so I would think that the ride will be no more than 80km (50 miles). It'll probably be a little less. If you have (or anyone else has) any specific requests ("need to be back by X o'clock", etc), feel free to let me know before I start route planning. I don't promise to take such requests on board (the group's wishes carrying more weight than the individual's), but I'll certainly look at the possibility. When I've planned a route, I'll post a link here. I'm too busy today, but hopefully I can do it tomorrow.

I’ll lead B run around 40-50 miles and have the stop at Lowsenford village hall as per Si Walkers post above.
Should be a good opportunity for the C riders who fancy stepping up (though it’s not likely to be much quicker)

Sunday's C run will be to Stourport (Windlass café). It's 74km (46mi), with a couple of longish climbs, but nothing scarily steep. The pace will be very relaxed; I'll be happy to get out in about 2 hours (41km @ 20.5) and back in about 1:45 (33.5km @ 19). Weather is currently forecast to be mild, but blustery and showery; definitely a day for mudguards and peelable outer layers.

Hello, Brett. You can download from Strava only if you have a Stava account and you're logged in. If you are, both an 'Export GPX' button and an 'Export TCX' button will be visible.

For people who aren't Strava members, I've provided a BikeHike link. To download from BikeHike, go to 'Mapping Controls', select 'Save route' and then select an appropriate format (I suggest GPX track).

You can also download directly from my own webspace by clicking the following link and selecting 'Save file' when prompted by your browser:
http://www.haywoodhouse.net/Resources/R ... ort_74.gpx

Once you've downloaded the file simply drag and drop onto your Garmin. Depending on the model, you may need to drop it into 'New files' or into 'Routes' (or similar).

If you really want to use routes without connection to a computer, which is what I thought you were asking, then George's advice won't work as you won't be able to get the route from your phone to your Garmin.

Try the Strava IQ app I suggested above. This works well and will transfer any Strava route you favourite directly to your unit when you update using the Bluetooth connection to Garmin connect.
No need for computers, downloading files or anything else.

Glad to hear that you sorted it, Brett.

Apologies for the misleading advice I gave earler; I overlooked the words "without using a computer".

Personally, I like to have all file management under my direct control, so that I can save, sort, edit and backup data as I please, without being tied to any particular platform, hardware or software. I also spend half my life at a computer, so doing things without using a computer is an inconvenience rather than a convenience, and I've never explored non-computer-based options.

A fine magical mystery tour Si.
It just goes to show, anyone can lead and you don't even need to plan a route if you don't fancy it.
Thanks again. Good fun.
