Club runs - 20th January

Post by WorcsPhil » 14 Jan 2019 09:37

Wow - 46 riders out on the four club runs at the weekend, the highest weekend number for over 2 years! In January!!

Of course, Carolyn's women's only rides have added to our club run options and it's great to see so many riders turning up for this. There has been an occasional request from men asking whether they could come along, but hopefully you understand the reasons why we want to keep this to females at the moment. As you know, I have banged on for ages that if you want a ride at any specific time, any length, any terrain, then SUGGEST IT AND LEAD IT YOURSELF, just as Carolyn has done. We will publicise anything new...It's amazing that in the last couple of years, no matter what has been suggested as a new type of ride has been a success (even a 400kms club run!), and there are even strong rumours of a gravel club run in the next couple of weeks, watch this space!

So thanks to Philip, Simon, Dave and Carolyn for leading last week, and let's hope the weather remains as cycle-able as the winter progresses.

This week's rides are:

A: Wellesbourne - Phil Richards
B: Worcester Country Park - Philip Whiteman
C: Akambas - Carolyn Clegg

Women’s ride at 08:15 on Saturday - Earlswood loop led by Carolyn Clegg

This Sunday's A-run will be to Wellesbourne as I haven't been there for ages! The route is similar to this:
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/19427604 30 miles out, 36 back

If the roads are sketchy, I have a gritted roads alternative route to Wellesbourne, and if it's very icy, I will cancel by 8am on Sunday...but hopefully not.

Can we have a B-ride leader please...on a weekend where Carolyn may pick up SIX club run points!!

B Run: Worcester Country Park 'Orchard Cafe'

I cannot abide Wellesbourne as it is full of proletariate and lacks anything civilised such as Waitrose or John Lewis and will therefore not be joining the A Run. To ensure that there is at least some form of a civilised element within the Beacon RCC, I will lead the B Run to Worcester Country Park as the city possesses a Waitrose with wine tasting bar and a large number of wholemeal food cafes specialising in organic and Fairtrade quinoa. Our specific destination will be Worcester Country Park cafe where a great array of locally and ethically sourced food can be enjoyed. Cutlery will be available for George Barker's bacon sandwich should our president grace us with his illustrious presence.

PLEASE NOTE THAT I WILL NOT BE RIDING IF ICE IS PRESENT IN DRAYTON TOMORROW MORNING OR EN-ROUTE TO THE BLACK HORSE.

A fairly large group today, so I was rather relieved by space being available at the Orchard Cafe. Many thanks for the good company and I was personally pleased to see some unfamiliar and new faces.

Most of the riders got cold feet during the club run and I am not talking in the metaphorical sense.

.

What about the 2 Beaconites on a tandem gatecrashing your ride?
Do we get 1/2 a point each?

Apologies for the characteristically bad timekeeping, Phil.
For the sake of the other Phil's records: I suspect "Dave Hughes" should read "Tony Webb".
