Club runs - 26th May

25 riders out on the three club runs on Sunday...good to see some old names back, and new faces riding for the first or second time...hopefully you enjoyed a rollicking good time, all washed down with lashings of ginger beer. Great to hear of many riders out on local audaxes from Meriden and Round the Wrekin, with top billing to Stuart White who blasted round a 600kms audax in the east of England in a tad over 24 hours...frightening! Also, there was plenty of racing on at the weekend with Beacon riders featuring both in midweek and on Sunday.... great stuff all.

Special thanks to Helen for leading the C-ride to the Meriden Cyclists' memorial, and excellent to see the photos from there. Thanks also to Philip W and George for leading the A and B rides with such aplomb... no one messes with them! The A-riders still await their score for obedience and organisation after the etiquette reminders last week...hopefully they scored above 'in special measures'? :D

...and so onto the Bank Holiday weekend. Yes, three days of frivolity punctuated by cycling of such loveliness on Sunday, you'll wonder why you left it so long...we have a testing A-ride on Sunday, but still vacancies to lead on the B and C are there for you to take on. This week's rides are:

A: Hilly 200km ride to Leominster - Paul Johnson (07:30 meet for 07:45 depart)
B: Destination TBC - Nick Shenton
C: Volunteer required to lead

Women's ride leave the Black Horse on SATURDAY at 07:30, led by Gemma Johnson this week

Sunday's A run route will be this https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29290506?beta=false one main stop at Leominster and a second shorter stop at Malvern/Upton(lots of options for stops to be decided on the day) it is a hilly route but only in the middle!!

And remember if your thinking of doing Nick Shenton's 300km(Chasing the cat) club run which is only just over 3 weeks away or my Skegness 500km club run which is just over 6 weeks away this is the perfect training ride.

Paul, are you using the same greasy spoon in Leominster that we used on Phil's 300 a couple of years ago?

Cheers. I may drop by and say hello. But it depends on work and stuff. So don't wait for me or anything.

I’ll take the B Run this Sunday.

I was originally planning to do Paul’s A Run but Mrs Shenton has enforced a curfew this week :( . I value my testicles so I’d rather take a berating from Mr Johnson than end up with squashed man veg.

Destination TBC

Unfortunately i can no longer lead the A run on Sunday but if someone wants to take over the route or lead a different run it would be much appreciated.

In the absence of Paul's A Run this week. I'll change my B to an A & we'll go to Evesham.

Nick, got a route and what is the time of departure? Need to get back early tomorrow, so will probably peel off somewhere.
Will you still be intact?!

Due to lowish numbers at the BH, the decision was made to combine the A and B rides.

So we started with 10 heading to the Den cafe at Stanford Bridge, but quickly became 7 due to mechanicals. Hope those affected managed to get back ok.

Matt Hale
Claire Fudge
Phil Gameson
Richard Leaper
Neil Orchard
Jon Sadler
Nick Shenton
George Barker met us at the cafe and rode with us for a while before turning off

Mechanicals: Phil Elwell and Wayne Gibbs
Turned off early: Barry Evans

Some nice roads, hope you enjoyed the hills!

After a quick group discussion I took the decision to Compromise & lead the C run for the "Good of the Club I love" *...)
We headed off on a new route to Lavender Hall but suffered with a Garmin GPS gremlin just the other side of Earlswood.

With the group in deadlock Richard Chaplin crashed us out of Earlswood with a "No deal exit" and led us to Yew tree farm Cafe - Wootton Wawen
returning via Morton Bagot & Tanworth in Arden. - Thank you Richard for taking up the lead role. - would be a good C club run for the future.

On today's C club run.

Richard Chaplin (Leader 2)
Huan Dong
Neil Evanson (Leader 1)
Cedric Gioan
Colin Hall
Mel Kavanagh
Geoff Mann
David Stephenson
Will Woodhouse

We had one mechanical-: Colin Hall suffering a broken chain at Tidbury Green & decided to abort & called partner for a lift.

That was a popular destination a few years back. Don't know why it fell out of favour, just wish that I still lead, or even ride a bike for that matter !
