Club Runs - 14th July

Well what a weekend that was. Ten of us trudged off to Skegness for a club ride to remember and more details of that have been posted separately in a thread below. ...and we had a couple of new club leaders out, and as Finbarr noted, the world didn't fall of it's axis due to leading a ride...great stuff, Finbarr, and thanks to Phil Elwell and Matt Hale for leading the A and B respectively. Finally Helen and Fenella led women's rides on both Saturday and Sunday respectively, meaning we had 36 riders out at the weekend.

It's now high Summer of course, and with the Tour de France now started, many people want to cycle and join their friends on a club run to restaurants of such fine beauty, they will be replicating the haute cuisine dishes to their own families on their return, so this week's rides are:

Fast Beacon Burst - led by Jess Rhodes-Jones
A: Wickhamford, south of Evesham - Phil Elwell
B: Cobhouse Fisheries - Rob Wade
C: Warwick - Cedric Gioan

Details of women's ride will either be posted below or on the Facebook page.

I'll give it a try at leading a C ride - 14th July

Maybe motivated by the fact that the 14th July is the national day in my original home country, I will try to follow Finbarr's courageous exemple and propose to lead a C ride to Warwick.
Will be around 55 miles BH to BH : https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30519081

PLEASE BEAR IN MIND THAT:
- I have never led a ride and will therefore appreciate forgiveness in advance for failure to maintain steady pace, approximate guidance and fellow riders lost en route !
- I also never tried the cafe I have in mind (https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restauran ... gland.html). Only ever once refilled my water bottle there so cannot warranty speed of service or quality of food but I know they have an outside terrasse. Tripadvisor profile is average so If anyone has a better suggestion of a gem place in Warwick...

C you sunday
Cédric

Felicitations et merci, Cedric!

...and as Ced says, it's his first time leading so help him out by offering advice and shouting up and down the line so everyone is clear on riders dropping off etc.

That only leaves a B-run leader to come forward, weather forecast looks excellent, so let's celebrate Bastille Day by avoiding national stereotypes, leave your string of onions at home and having a full set of club runs.

Leave your onions at home, we'll have a baguette at the cafe !
PS: Helmets are more advisable than berets !

I can lead a B Run to Cobhouse Fisheries. Bit out of practice so won't be fast. Optional return via Winwood Heath Rd for anyone wanting a test before the Kiddi Killer.

Sunday's A-Run will now go to Wayside Farm Shop at Wickhamford just south of Evesham. Outbound route will go via the Lenches and through Evesham. Return route will go via Fladbury and Droitwich. Approx. 70 miles in total.

Si, I've tried winding up my old laptop but it's not having it just yet. I'll have another try later go see if i can get a route. I'll be going the common route of Stourport and Great Witley out and returning via the lanes after Holt Heath to Cutnall Green and back via Belbroughton.

On the B run today there was a tendency today for some people to ride two abreast virtually regardless of the road conditions. I am not the first to feel this way (there have plenty of post on this matter, including I believe from the chair person), nor was it the first time I have been concerned about this.
However, today I over reacted to the situation, possibly as a result of a bad headache giving me a short temper.
With more than one request to single out about being ignored I decided that I did not want to be associated with the group, turned round and expressed my displeasure (intended for one particular person but possibly not viewed that way).
I apologise for this reaction, but not for my frustration about the situation.
One of the problems with the whole two abreast issue that in effect we need a unanimous decision to ride single file - it is only takes one person to decide not to do it for the everyone else's actions to be irrelevant.
Of course, where one person thinks we should go single file and another person thinks we should not, we could always pull over to the side of the road (when safe to do so) and have a vote on the matter...
