Club Runs - 1st September

Plenty of big things happening last week that I will report on separately in the next few days, but.....

Can it be September already? So where did that time go...what a great summer of cycling we’re having, but before the autumnal air arrives and everybody succumbs to back-to-schools colds, why not take advantage of the fitness you have and roll out them summer bikes for a few more weeks. Thanks to Paul, Nick, Matt and Finbarr for leading last weeks’ Sunday rides and to Richard Leaper for a Monday Club Run invite...there were 18 riders out on the 5 rides, but as we all return from holidays or overseas adventures, club run attendance will only grow in September.

As such, it would be good to get VOLUNTEERS coming forward in advance for the club Runs this weekend...get your names down and details on cafe destinations.

This week’s rides are: Rides leave at 09:15 unless otherwise stated.

Beacon Burst A-Run - Ian Taylor
A: Circumcision of Birmingham 200k ride - Nick Shenton (meet at 07:50, leaving at 8am sharp)
B: Toddington - Si Walker (meet at 08:15 for 08:30 depart)
C: Volunteer required

Intro ride: Earlswood, Dave Cole leading, supported by Dave Cox

This weeks A Run is another 200km jaunt around the lanes and roads of the Midlands.

This time we'll be revisiting our own Mr Richards Circumcision of Birmingham route. I've had to tweak it a bit as it wasn't actually 200km for those of us wanting to submit a DIY Audax entry for September.

Here is the route - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30959648

I propose a prompt 8am start so meet at The Black Horse for 7:45. Hopefully it'll stay dry

Nick if your thinking of using that cafe in Polesworth for the first stop i would check to see if it's open because when we went past it last week it was shut.

Thanks @Nick Shenton, much appreciated. What do you have the controls / coffee stops down for the route, just so I can submit for DIY?

I will probably be riding in from Newport so will be an early start for me, and just drop in and out as close as possible to complete the full loop.

Cheers
Chris

Ok cheers for the heads up Paul. If it's closed there is a Co-Op close by instead.

Thanks Daves!!

...and can we have a B-ride and C-Ride leader coming forward please, weather looks fine so be good to get a full set of club rides lined up in advance.

As the A-ride is a 200kms jaunt on Sunday, people are also most welcome to lead a Beacon Burst as an antidote and shorter option for A-riders...

Where and what distance are the stops on the A run? For those of us who don't do 200 km before-breakfast, need to know how much food to carry and if I'm going to survive. Have yet to do even a 100 miler this season

I will lead a B ride to Toddington, 82 miles, out via Droitwich and Pershore and return via Fladbury and Feckenham. It is relatively flat so it might suit some aspiring B riders to increase their distance endurance. Pace average will be about 15 mph. It is 45 miles to the cafe stop (Flag and Whistle Railway cafe) so I advise a calorific breakfast and to carry 2 full bottles and some energy bars or cake plus ensure you have the route below downloaded for your device.

Weather is predicted to be cooler at 10-14 deg C with light rain PM.

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/27502291

Meet at the BH at 08:15 for an earlier start than usual at 08:30 hrs., estimated return time 15:00 hrs.

:D

There will be a cafe/shop stop approximately every 50km give or take but anyone is free to stop at anytime for a refuel on the route.

On the B ride tomorrow on the way out toward Toddington are you going via Quantry Lane or coming back that way? If it’s out then I can join in there or Fairfield as I live on Farley Lane so no need to go into Northfield. I can then peel off on the way back at Barnt Green. Thanks. Matt

Matt, Yes out via Dayhouse Bank, Quantry lane, Fairfield & return via Barnt Green to the BH - see the route here.

Awesome thank you. I’ll see how I get on as my hamstring is a little sore but should be fine. I’ve fully rested today so fingers crossed. See you there 🚴🏼‍♂️

Not content with the paltry selection of rides on offer today (Beacon Burst, very long A run, long B run and Intro. ride) I led a short unadvertised C run.
We went out via Tardebigge and back via Danzey Green. The roads were pretty quiet for the most part, until we ran into a huge car boot sale south of Redditch. We stopped at Earlswood lakes after about 28 miles, then came back via a pretty direct route.

On the ride were:
Neil Evanson
Phil Gameson (leader)
Mel Kavanagh
Dave Little

Riders were as follows;

Fenella Brown
Matt Ford
Claire Fudge
Cedric Gioan
