Club runs - 15th September

Another fine weekend saw over 30 riders out on the four club runs, and thanks to James Bendle in particular for an excellent first lead of the A-ride...thanks also to Phil Elwell, Nick Shenton and Pete Norman for stepping up again.

I’m away for a couple of weeks without a bike, boohoo!, so keen we get leaders nominated early, but as the most ignored person in Worcestershire apart from that bloke in Pershore who rattles on and on about plums, I fully expect to have to chivvy in a few days. Surprise me.

Anyway, this week’s rides are:

A: Ilmington - Philip Whiteman. Departure 0815
B: Volunteer required
C: Charlecote - Pete Norman

A RUN - 15TH SEPTEMBER - ILMINGTON

It is my honour and my privilege to announce a great club A run for Sunday 15th September departing at 08.15am. This honour comes a close second to what can only be described as one the greatest acts that any Beacon RCC cyclist can bestow on our sport, and that is entering the South Salopian audax on 5th October.

Our destination this coming Sunday will be the fine splendid destination to tranquil, pastoral and historical parish of Ilmington in the ancient county of Gloucestershire. Ilmington is noted for its fine community operated cafe and shop along with the poet, Sir Thomas Overbury, who lived nearby. Participants on our club run will the chance to visit and rejoice at Robert Thompson's carved pulpit and pews located within the 12th century church.

Set within the spirit of our cultured and upstanding club run, participants will of course display and excellent capacity for adhering to club run etiquette of not stopping suddenly to the disbenefit of others, nor remain muted when audible warning calls are given from fellow riders. Within the serene setting of the finest tea room and cafe, all club run riders will be expected to ensure that their volume is kept to the modicum of restraint and refrain from using foul language likely to cause offence to genteel customers present.

Hello George.

It is 59km, so I would guesstimate 10.45-11.00

EDIT. Arrive at 10.30 to be on the safe side.

Thanks, Phil. So you're expecting to average 26kph?

It's a nice venue, and I hope to join you there, but don't count on it, because I'm not great at dragging myself out of bed early.

Hi all

I'm looking to do a hilly training ride on Sunday but could make it a "Beacon Burst" club run if there's enough interest? If so, it'll be 3 hours or so BH to BH (9:00 for 9:15 start) via Gay Hill, Danzey Green, Lickeys and Clent/Waseleys. 14-15 mph average expected but at pace of the slowest rider as ever. Bit of practice for the Hill Climb Champs perhaps :)

Sorry but I can't lead a Beacon Burst today, bloomin' infected insect bites! Jon Sadler knows but pass on to anyone else planning to come. Thanks

Magical mystery tour of Ilmington trying to find the cafe, arriving at 10am

Philip Whiteman L
Barry 'I eat crusts' Evans
Vince Tennent
Neil 'clickety click' Orchard
Simon White
Paul Johnson
Ben Crone
Matt Hale
Robert Mugabe

Generally speaking, a brisk club lead by somebody who was navigationally inept. Good standard of riding.
