Club Runs - November 3rd

26 riders out on Sunday in sky's so blue, it made your eyes water. Plenty of puddles about, including one on the A-ride which was so deep, it reached your ankles, and anyone with no momentum would have fallen in...unfortunately no one did!

Thanks to Phil Richards (me), Phil Elwell and Simon 'Phil' Turner for leading the three rides... and having three leaders meant a pretty much even split of riders on the three Beacon club rides, good stuff.

...and so we venture into November, full of fog, dodgy moustaches, and winter bikes. We're still in Europe so to celebrate/commiserate (delete as appropriate), we're offering four rides this coming Sunday, which includes an Intro ride. For those not familiar with these, they are introductory rides for people just getting into cycling and unsure what to expect on a club ride, or even a gentler ride for those more experienced, in any case publicise these monthly rides around your social circle if you will...

No leaders yet, but hopefully, they will fill up as the week progresses. I always like to see people volunteer for future weeks...just post to the October/November/December thread...come on A-riders - get your name down, plenty of regulars riding now who should suggest a week when you're free to lead.

A: Destination TBC - Nick Shenton
B: Volunteer required
C: Finbarr Costigan Leading to Hillers using this route - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/9588045
Intro ride: Avoncroft museum café - Dave Cox

This weeks A run will be to either Spiders Web at Cosford or 1232 Cafe in Albrighton.

I’ll decide on the morning which one we’ll go to but both destinations are about the same distance.

I’ll lead the B run to The Wyre Forest Visitor Centre
My usual route of about 55 miles with a fair amount of climbing.
Forecast is for it to be dry, but expect plenty of surface water.

Weather looks OK for tomorrow's Intro Ride to Avoncroft Museum's Edwardian Tea Room. 30 miles, pleasant potter on nice lanes, a few hills, bring a cafe lock. Be good to have a back up rider.

Intro Run to Avonscroft - 3 Daves 1 Derek

Dave Cox (leading)
Dave Cole (support)
Dave Little
Derek Reynolds

More of a Retro run given combined ages. Tales of Derek's first Beacon Club Run across the City and straight up the A roads to Ashbourne (!) and a visit to Beacon Hill on the return where the club was established 73 years ago.

The B run to Wyre Forest Visitor centre was almost without incident (chain off twice) on what turned into a very pleasant Autumn morning for a while.
Low winds and no rain - the roads were wet and dirty, but very little flooding.
The advantage of cycling West at this time of year is that you don't have the sun in your eyes when it is at its lowest.

On the B run were:
Phil Gameson (leading)
Andy McGrath
Ewan Ross
Jon Sadller
Lee Spears
Phil Whiteman

George Barker joined us a the cafe.

Thanks for everyone for their company. I hope the pace was about right. I have to say it is one of the hardest (just) sub 15mph rides I have done, but that might be because I was not as fit as I thought I was.

Never mind the names, what a good club run. Pace excellent and conversation on par. So that is what bike riding is all about. I might try it again.
