Club Runs - 5th January

Post by WorcsPhil » 30 Dec 2019 09:37

So, that's it...that's the end of that decade, did you make the most of it? Did you ride as much as you wanted?

If not, then the club runs is the ideal occasion to do more this decade before we're all too old to ride a bike. We have teens to octagenerians riding bikes in this club, so what's your excuse? There are a range of club runs at different speeds and we're the only club offering 3 or 4 rides a week at different speeds and lengths, so stop staying indoors thinking 'I'll start next year', pump up them tyres and get riding.

Please start posting your free times to the Jan/Feb/March thread on when you can lead and post here if you can lead for the first club run of the 480 we have planned for this decade. They can be anything from 20kms to 700kms, suggest it and they will come...

This week's rides are:

A: Albrighton - Nick Shenton
B: Beacon Burst 22miler at approx. 15mph - Gemma Johnson
C: Worcester Country Park - Noel O'Dwyer
No Intro ride in January, back in February!

If the C group is quite big or if there is a preference for some riders, Ill lead a faster group to the same place, with maybe a modified starting route to Belbroughton.

Andy: Yes, same route from Belbroughton and a bit faster, will miss out St Kenelms section, but go up Egghill to Wasley hills then Quantry Lane Bell End to Belbroughton,

Today's A Run to Albrighton was quite an eventful one with 3 separate incidents involving idiot drivers.

The first unfortunately resulted in a crash involving Andy & John. Andy came off the worst in his attempt to avoid a van driver who had taken exception to us being on the road/existing and circled around a junction to intimidate us further. Unfortunately Andy crashed into the back of John whilst avoiding what can only be described as a total bell end in the van.

Andy has suffered a bashed up knee, hip and arm and damage to his clothing but managed to finish the ride. John suffered a damaged shoe and came off unscathed.

In the other 2 incidents a Mercedes driver gave us all a close pass going at well over 60mph, so much so the wing mirror clipped my jacket. The 3rd incident was another close pass at slower speed.

It's incidents like these today that sometimes makes me question why I carry on riding with such disregard for our lives and makes me consider the purchase and use of cameras on all rides.

Thankfully we all got back without further issue. Andy I hope you heal up soon mate.

Thats terribel, thats why i have front and rear cameras on at all times plus a head cam on my helmet when im out on my own.
I also have a little sign on the back of my small saddlebag saying " You're on camera".
Iy is quite amazing how motorists approach from behind, i can hear them coming up behind fst and then all of a sudden sow down
Thank You

Bloody hell. I suddenly feel very lucky to be stuck indoors with man-flu.

Best wishes to all the victims of aggression and carelessness.

Andy,

This is the race/climb I mentioned with a super long climb:
http://www.taiwankom.org/en/index.asp

Looks a very long climb - how does it compare to the one you did in Colombia?
