Club Runs - 2nd February

27 riders out on Sunday on the 4 rides...good to see the women's ride re-appear on Saturday, always a welcome addition to the weekly calendar....and it seems that Beacon Bursts (shorter rides with no cafe stop) are always popular, so these are also actively encouraged.

Thanks to Nick, Neil, Pete and Gemma for leading the rides, and great to confirm that no tomatoes were hurt in the course of the rides this week.

It's February! and to celebrate we have a minimum of 4 rides this week also, as there is an intro ride planned, and a hugely capable leader in El Presidente to lead it...so let's have another full week of club runs, please, you know what to do! Don't forget, if there is a normal A and B ride announced, you can still promote a Beacon Burst, as they are an additional free option

A: Volunteer required
B: Volunteer required
C: Volunteer required

Intro: Destination TBC - George Barker leading, but support rider would also be helpful.

I enjoyed my first run with Beacon RCC, B route ride the other week. Looking forward to a B run ride on Sunday, if it works out, happy to do a route with a stop or without one. :D

Thanks for stepping up, Paul.

So in this weekly game of dare, why not just rise above it and put your name forward... I will nominate the A-ride leader next week already, a popular rider who rides regularly but rarely leads, so we can all look forward to VT at the helm on the A-ride next week... don’t let me loose on the C-riders!

Can we have a C-ride leader for this week and next please, the weather looks fine, it just needs pluck

This weekend's Intro Ride will be a 48km (30mi) excursion through the lanes of Worcestershire with a café stop just over half way. It'll be a nice relaxed ride where we stick together in a little group and go at the pace of the slowest rider, which is usually about 16-20kph (10-13mph). We won't be tackling any really steep hills, but it's inevitably more up than down on the way back to Brum, for the simple reason that Brum is relatively high up. The distance and terrain mean that the ride should be doable for anyone who can already ride at or above the target speed for an hour or two. Intro Rides are meant for people who are new to group/club riding. The threshold to participation is low, but people who are very new to cycling are probably best advised to get a few miles in their legs before coming along.

We're scheduled to set off at 09:15, but riders are asked to arrive around 09:00, so that we can have a quick chat about riding as a group, and so that I can collect emergency contact details from each newcomer (name and number of someone to call in the unlikely event that you have an accident while riding with us).

We're expecting a mild but breezy day, with the chance of a spot of rain early on. Newcomers are therefore advised to cover up and to bring a light waterproof, but not to overdress. The café at Broadacres is cosy but basic. So people with special dietary needs might want to consider bringing a little food with them. A bottle on the bike is a good idea for everyone. I think that the café only takes cash, but their prices are very low.

- Route on Strava (if any non-Strava user wants a GPX/TCX file, let me know)

In the absence of anyone else offering, I am willing to lead the C run to Oakes Farm Shop at Balsall Common. The route is quite short at 40 miles - there is the possibility of extending it a bit on the return leg if everyone (including me) wants to. I am not sure if the Club has used the cafe before -if it is too busy we can always go to Lavendar Hall Fisheries (about a mile and a half away). I haven't published the route as the route I have starts from home!

Well the A/B run turned into a tyre blowout/**flat** nightmare it began with James tyre blowout in Drayton causing him to DNF then i **flat**d the other side of Chaddesley Corbett then i also suffered a tyre blowout just after Droitwich i then made the decision to limp home hoping my emergency boot patch would hold out, the rest of the group continued but took a wrong turn and passed me on the way back to Droitwich Nick decided to go home and when i left them Stuart had just suffered another **flat** so they may still be looking for the cafe......

Paul Johnson(Leading till limping home)
James Bendle(DNF)
Nick Shenton(Took his ball home)
Andrew Wrightson
Jon Sadler
Stuart Jones
Simon White
Anthony Featherstone

How on earth did i get home?

I had a most splendid sausage and black pudding sandwich on the mother of all crusty breads, after turning round we proceeded straight there without an issue

On today's very enjoyable Intro Ride were two returnees following periods out and two regulars:

Dave Little
Mariana Sorrill
George Barker (L)
Phil Whiteman (2L)

At the café (expecting to find the A run there) was John Hitchcock.

I see that Phil Gameson may have forgotten to post the riders names for the C ride.
They are as far as I can remember they are.

Phil Gameson (Leading)
Claire Fudge
André Gardner (abandoned at the Cafe)
Matt Hale
Noel O'Dwyer
Simon Turner
Si Walker

Plus a new chap, but can't remember his name.
