Club runs - 8th March

Another windy day with lots of puddles on Sunday, but that doesn't deter the Beacon club rider, no siree.

Well over 20 riders out on the 3 rides, and thanks to Neil O, Phil G and particularly Mariana for leading for the first time. Excellent stuff, Mariana!

I will talk about the Sunrise/Snowdrop in a separate email, but thanks to all the Beaconites for supporting it...and great to see some audaxers were also out the following day on club rides.

I read the weather is now improving, and we can promise 20c temperatures on Sundays for the rest of the Spring/Summer, so come on out and lead whatever you fancy, be that normal 100kms+ rides, Beacon Bursts or shorter café rides, the choice is yours...come on down!

This weeks rides are:

A: Destination TBC - Nick Shenton (08:30 start)
B: Warwick - Neil Orchard
C: Alcester - George Barker

SC (Short Café) ride at C-ride pace (36 miles) - Botany café - Mariana Sorrell

Excellent, Mariana...you're in.

It may be worth advising roughly what pace (e.g. 12-14mph) you'll be riding so that others can judge whether to come along...

That's great Mariana, I'll come along to make sure you have your quota of Daves. Also it will be a new cafe for me. Club run leaders are not obliged to fix other people's mechanicals although we will all help where we can !!!

Sunday's C run will probably be to Alcester, >80km/50mi. However, I need to check with the café first. Also, I'm not going to be able to recce the route beforehand, so if anyone knows of any floods etc down that way, please let me know.

Sounds good. Looking forward to it.

This will be my 3rd ride now with the club. Really enjoyed it so far. Do I have to join the club officially now to carry on with club runs or is that just for races and other stuff?? How does it work?

Apologies for the slowness posting details of Sunday's C run. The weather forecast for tomorrow is a mild day, but breezy with showers. I've therefore decided that maybe it isn't a great day for going anywhere where we might end up sitting outside (as often happens at Alcester). So my new plan is to go to Stourport. I will go over there this afternoon to check that the after-effects of the recent flooding aren't going to create any issues. Pending the outcome of that trip, here is the provisional route. It's moderately hilly, but the hills are mainly long steady drags, rather than anything severe, and it's on the short side to compensate. I won't be going fast.

Not sure if anyone got the message about an earlier start, or I've developed a bad odour but I was the only one on the A Run to Cobhouse Fisheries.

I waited until 8:30am then set off solo. Happily Phil Whiteman was at the cafe and we rode the return leg together.

On today's billy no mates A Run was:

Nick Shenton
Phil Whiteman (Met at cafe)

Thanks to all for your company and your patience.
