Intro Ride Sunday 2 May

Post by George » 26 Apr 2021 21:29

There will be an Intro Ride this coming Sunday, 2 May, led by me and Chris Yan. It'll be roughly 30 miles at a gentle pace (10 to 12mph, or pace of the slowest rider), with an outdoor café stop. Meet at the Black Horse 09:00 for an 09:15 departure. For Covid-related and safety reasons, the ride will be limited to six people, signed up in advance.

The ride will be tailored for people new to club cycling, or just picking it up again after a long break.

Full details to follow shortly.

Hello, Simon.

There most certainly are spaces left: you are our first taker! This is the first time we have run an Intro Ride since lockdown, and we didn't advertise it very far in advance. I think that awareness hasn't picked up yet, so people haven't started looking out for the rides. Chris and I would love to see you if you don't mind being the only newcomer. However, if you would feel uncomfortable about that, please just say. If you could let me know one way or the other today, that would be great.

Yes would be great if you're still happy to go with just the 1 newcomer!

We ultimately had a full house for a very enjoyable Intro Ride today. And it turned out to be a well matched group, all of a good standard who should have no trouble graduating straight to a C ride. No one complained (much) about all the hills or my shaky grasp of the concept of punctuality, although apparently one or two found it hard to recognise me from my profile picture, which was obviously taken when I was much younger. Thanks to everyone for your company and to Chris for remembering the things I forgot.

Participant list:
Simon Fertig
Andy Peter
Lucy Taylor
Dave Little
Chris Yan (L2)
George Barker (L)

(Mick Cullinan was also at the café, but obviously sat on a separate table.)
