100 miles in ~8 hrs - Sun June 27th - 07:30-FULL

Post by Si_Walker » 02 May 2021 16:12

I plan to run a 100 miler club ride, weather permitting with stops at Tewksbury and Harvington.
The route is as follows
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/33568103

In order to keep this group tight the number will be limited to a maximum of 8 (should be OK post lockdown)
Speed will be a steady slow B pace of about 14 mph.
I suggest taking extra food and 2 bottles, ensure your bike is in good nick beforehand. If there are more riders interested then I suggest someone leads another group leaving earlier or later or sets up another ride for a different week.
A possible beer/refreshment at the Barnt Green Inn at the end.
One member has already asked to join, please add your name if interested.

Hi Si,
I'll have the last place if you don't mind.
14mph is OK, but if you're all going to smash it at 15mph or more, then I'll leave this space to someone else.

Cedric, it will be a steady pace over this distance, the average will be 14 ish, but will be faster on the way out to Tewksbury, and then slower as we on sections around Bredon Hill and others obviously. Looking at your form today you'll be fine. I'll add you and if you decide otherwise let me know.

Looks like the fastest selling out ride ever !

I hope I'll be fine, but when I look at all the other names, I feel like the ugly little weakling.

Published today's ride pictures as you requested in the message board entry for the ride, at the bottom. That way you can download them in full res if you wish (can be tricky from Strava).

Hopefully I did that speed on a similar route, solo century this week: https://www.strava.com/activities/5202819342
So I hope I'll be fine. What worries me is if you all become possessed in the middle of it.
Mind you, the hardest bit will be to wake up and be at the BH for 7:30

Si, my plan is to meet you at Crowle. That's 34.5km into your ride, which I estimate will take you 1h20m. I will therefore be in Crowle (at the junction where you turn left to Broughton Hackett) at 08:45.

OK, George, can we make it Crowle Parish Hall? That might be better as we can pull into the side of the road. The left turn is a sharp corner and could be a hazardous place to stop.

Hi,
Weather tomorrow (Sunday) is generally looking good, a cool start, warming up towards noon, some light rain possible in the afternoon.
Sorry Ben, no one has dropped out.
I hope to see you all tomorrow for a 07:30 departure from the BH and we'll meet George at Crowle Parish Hall.
Be aware that some of the roads in the Worcester area have recently been top surfaced, making it tricky on corners, with patches of loose gravel accumulating at the side, middle and corners of the road.

Sorry for the late message. Just logged on the message board before going to bed.
Won't be coming to the ride tomorrow as my tri-bar is not accepted :( :(
Won't have time to disassemble + it's quite useful for me to rest my arms and get my trapped wrist nerves to recover.
Posting here so that you can see if waiting for me tomorrow morning.

A great day out, thanks to Si Walker for leading and everyone for a most enjoyable day.

As for the unfortunte incidence with members of Droitwich CC in Twyning, l have since made a formal complaint to the club. To which they have since apologised to me and the other members in our group and promised to carry out an investigation and take the necessary action.

Riding like a group of idiots with no regard for other road users (including other cyclists) is bad enough, but doing it when wearing club colours.....really???
