Meriden Memorial Service D Run 5th September

Post by Dave Cox » 20 Aug 2021 14:45

We've had confirmation that the 100th Meriden Cyclists' Memorial Service postponed from May will go ahead on Sunday 5th September. As in previous years I'll be riding there at D run pace starting at 8.00. We should have time for a quick coffee/breakfast at Lavender Hall before riding down to Meriden. Some riders might want to go straight back for a shorter ride.

Let me know if you are able to join me. Round trip is just under 50 miles

It's on the Village Green where the Memorial was dedicated in 1921 with 20,000 cyclists attending. I'm pretty sure this year's event will be socially distanced !!!

Details here www.cyclinguk.org/event/meriden-cyclist ... rvice-2021

We will have a Beacon wreath to present and I'm working on how to get it there. I don't think towing my trailer is going to work !!!

Thanks Rich and Pete be good to see you. Yes Rich we can pick you up outside the Red Lion Earlswood at about 8.35?

Pete I think I'm going to fit the touring carrier on my Bike Friday and see if I can get it on there with some protection.

There's no cakes this year at Meriden because of COVID so I'm going to bring a sandwich with me as well as the stop at Lavender Hall.

Hi Marie-Lucie - round trip is just under 50 miles and fairly flat. I'm probably bringing the wreath on a touring bike so it won't be a fast ride.

You would be very welcome to come along, hope to see you Sunday

Is the route tomorrow going past The man on the moon pub then on to Redhill Road? If so, can I join by the Peacock pub?
