Club runs for the weekend of 12th September

Post by WorcsPhil » 06 Sep 2021 10:02

A heatwave. I repeat, a heatwave is here. Why not rag off work for a day and enjoy a ride midweek :D ...Paul Balfe has a D-ride to Hillers on Wednesday, and no doubt other rides are going on as well as the Tuesday night bash. Go on, have a go...

A great set of club rides at the weekend, with a couple of 100 milers, and good to see a large group on the C-ride, and for some of whom, this was their century debut...well done all, and to Dave Cole for leading this. Also on Sunday, it was the Meriden cyclists memorial day, and good to see the Beacon tricolore in the crowds on Midlands Today last night as they featured this 100th anniversary of the Meriden memorial. Thanks to Dave Cox for leading the ride out to Meriden. There were also a few Beacon riders out on sportives at the weekend, notably, the Ride for Peace, Mad Summer Hare and the Tour of the Peaks...good to see all of these rides having Beacon riders. Well done to all who rode these hilly days out.

Onto this week...this coming Sunday sees the Beacon hill climb on Winwood Heath Road near to Romsley. It has been a very sad season for time trials for us this year of course due to the Martin Osman's death a month or two back, but this is the last TT of the year, so it would be great to get a huge crowd out to ride, watch, cheer or support this Beacon event. Our TT organisers and riders have had to ensure a lot this year, so let's support them on this last event of 2021. As such, club runs are advised to route via Romsley and watch this gut-wrenching race. It starts at 11am, and a cafe visit afterwards is recommended. The delayed September Intro ride will follow this pattern and so should other rides...I heartily recommend Broad Acres for a doorstep sandwich afterwards!

Be good to see people there.

Finally, a big shout out to Helen Colson who is riding LEJOG as we speak, alone and via gravel and mountain roads. Check her rides out on strava and support her justgiving page...it looks an epic route, well done Helen!
