Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of Halloween

Post by WorcsPhil » 26 Oct 2021 09:32

Hi all,

Lovely out, innit?

A bespoke set of club runs last weekend with riders heading out in all directions on both Saturday and Sunday, sometimes to cafes that were open :D . The usual thanks to Gemma and Matt for leading rides on Saturday and Nick, Paul B, Dave C and Huan for leading rides on the wetter Sunday. It's great that we're getting some regular ride leaders at the start of Autumn, and a special shout out to Gemma Johnson and Paul Balfe for putting themselves forward and leading regularly. Please support their efforts by signing up in good time and/or suggesting similar rides yourself every so often.

So what's happening this week?

The big event this week is a Beacon track night on Thursday. Entries are still open for this race night on Thursday (28th) at the Birmingham Wheels park. Sign on 6:30. Track open for practice 6:45. Racing starts 7pm. More details and sign on is here:
https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/beacon-r ... 6047993827

We're sorry to say that Birmingham Wheels Park is to close and although alternative venues are being sought by BCC this will be the last of the Beacon events at this venue. Adrian puts a great deal of effort in sorting these events, so please sign up and go along to the race night on Thursday. It is road bikes only so you don't need the latest slippery equipment to compete and IT IS FREE FOR BEACON MEMBERS...You can't say fairer than that.

So what else is happening. The committee are looking at the possibility of organising an Emergency first aid course (to include things like CPR, choking, cuts and bruises and broken bones). This would be ideal for ride leaders and those where first aid is important (isn't that everyone!). It is two 3-hour sessions and will cost about £32 per person for the whole course (possibly subsidised) and probably be 4-7pm on two weeknights...would this be of interest to members? Let me know if you are interested.

Finally, two dates for your diary...Saturday November 13th is our 75th Anniversary awards night...tickets have sailed past 100 so get yours before it's over , and secondly, the 2021 Beacon AGM will be on Thursday December 9th at Hillscourt (halfway up Rose Hill) or via Zoom, so a hybrid meeting...more details will be sent soon.

Have a good week

Phil
