Who is interested in a Santa ride over X-mas ?

Post by CeGi » 03 Dec 2021 12:07

Hi,
I am planning to do a special Santa ride over the X-mas period.
This is not a ride in costume (though the idea might be fun too) but a ride to reproduce the stravart from the gifted Anthony Hoyte:

This kind of ride is not the usual country lane strolling we usually do. It's usually a bit slower as you have to pay extra attention to the direction not to mess up the result and also more urban. So might definitely not be to everyone's taste. Please also note that this ride is 42 miles long https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35904553, so with the commute to the starting point and the coming back it will possibly reach 60 miles.

If some of you are tempted to try, please let me know below and also try to indicate which dates would be OK with you between the 24th and 31st of Dec (25th obviously not considered as I guess most will be celebrating). Boxing might be a perfect day, but weather might decide otherwise, so if you're free during the week after, please indicate it so I know what date might gather a few participants

Hoping there will be lots of elves joining me

Please note that due to medical reasons I use a handle-bar extender, a bit like TT-bars. I use this to relief the pain of NHS diagnosed trapped nerves in my wrists and elbow. I do NOT use these to ride like a TT racer, to draft behind others or similar performance seeking stunts.
Every bike ride, be it commute, ride alone or in group, entails its share of risks (bad road surface, motorised traffic, natural elements, our or other riders' mistakes or inattentions...). This is common knowledge and we all ride at our own risk. Nevertheless if my use of this extender this makes you feel uncomfortable, please do not join my ride.

I'm definitely interested Cedric. Just not sure about my availability yet.

but I have no indications (apart from Mariana during our latest ride together) of the dates you'd be interested in.
Obviously the 25th is a no-no, but Sunday the 26th or the 27th or 28th (BH in lieu) seemed nice contender dates at first sight. But the weather forecast for these dates seems polar (so far) and uncertain regarding rain / snow or dry depending on where I look.
So still a bit early to decide of a date yet, and later like 2nd Jan is likely to be too late for the subject.

Anyway, it appears reasonable / sensible to go to the city centre by train or by car to keep the days effort focused on that route and save the extra 20-ish mile necessary to go to the start point and come back from it.

Let's review the situation in a few days when weather forecast is likely to be a bit more reliable.

Hi Cedric,

I cant do the 26th but 27th onwards works well for me. Agree that cutting off the extra 20 miles and focusing just on the route would be a great shout. Fingers crossed for some decent weather! Now to find that santa hat..

OK, so let's plan for the 27th for now. Unless weather turns awful and 28th offers a much better option.
