Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 9th January

Weekly Update

Yes, my inane ramblings are back after a week off :D

Christmas is the time for excess and setting plans for the New Year, and it didn't disappoint, did it? Did you eat and drink too much? Speaking to the club riders at Evesham yesterday, we heard from someone who tipped three quarters of a bottle of Prosecco down the sink, because..."I couldn't face it"... one other confirmed that they had eaten so many sprouts, that if they bend over, they constitute a fire hazard, and it was wonderful to meet the new European 'Pigs-in-Blankets Eating Champion 2021' in the cafe.

So yes, after all that wanton excess, it is time to plan your 2022 adventures, set the ball rolling on your plans. There are numerous long rides being planned with even a Birmingham-Liverpool-Birmingham ride in the offing in the summer. It is also great to see Cedric proposing a plan to get riders up to ride a 300kms ride also in the summer. Why not sign up to that, it's a beautiful thing to do.

...and thanks to Philip Whiteman for posting all about our plans for audaxes this year. Details are here:

the first of these is indeed the Sunrise/Snowdrop audax from Whitlenge at the end of February...we have over 150 riders already booked onto this, but Beacon members are outnumbered from those of Stourbug and Stourbridge CC, so let's get more Beacon members enrolled...details in the post above.

...but it's not all about long distance riding of course, we'll set out our TT plans in due course, but it's great to see a new found momentum in racing. After a couple of fallow years, let's publicise what we're doing and encourage new riders to race...it's all set out in Kyle Gatier's recent message board post here:

...why not set out your plans, and let Kyle and others know what we're doing, we really want Beacon to be a racing club again!

Last but no means least, club runs continue. Thanks to the leaders who volunteer to lead rides, but this is a call to all Beacon members, club rides are the backbone of our club, why not re-engage with them this year...stopping at a cafe with like-minded souls can be so entertaining and it's motivating to get out also...so let's continue to meet up and please volunteer to lead a ride or two, it helps share the load.

Have a great week

Phil
