Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 13th March

Post by WorcsPhil » 07 Mar 2022 16:19

WEEKLY UPDATE:

Next Sunday is the 13th, but thinking a week ahead, it's a well-known fact that nothing ever happens on Sunday March 20th, so that is now a 'Club Run Reunion day' :D . We are hoping for at least 3 traditional club runs, all leaving the Black Horse at 09:15, so we can all have a cheery greeting. I'll take the A-run and the call is out for other club rides to take place, all going out the cafes at the allotted speeds, with a Beacon Burst option for good measure hopefully. We have a had a few weeks of haphazard club runs, sometimes missing an A, sometimes a B, so the call is out to make the 20th a fall back to the good old days. So cancel your trip to Aunt Maud's, get childcare, the grouting can wait, stop your 57th consecutive ride on your own or with one mate, and get reacquainted with the traditional club run where you can speak to 6 different people on one ride. More details next week.

But next week is the 13th and we already have a B and C ride planned as well as a first women's-only ride for a couple of years. Please encourage people who are perhaps new to riding or less confident, or just want the added intelligence :o that comes from women-only rides to come along.

Last weekend saw an Intro ride led by George Barker and a well-attended C-ride led by Cedric Gioan, so thanks to those two for leading the rides. Cedric is of course leading a few rides over the next few weeks, building up to a 300kms ride in the Summer, so why not make that journey with him and smash your own distance records in the company of fellow Beaconites.

Talking of long distance rides, last Saturday saw a huge Beacon contingent of around 12 riders on the 100kms and 200kms audaxes organised by our friend Mark Rigby in Tewkesbury. It is so good to see so many Beacon riders regularly riding audaxes...our distinctive tops are now being recognised wherever we go.

Finally other news, there are still 3-4 places on the free first aid course arranged for the 24th/31st March, so get your name down if your are a regular Beacon volunteer, and in April we see two high profile Beacon promoted events, first the Little Mountain Time Trial (LMTT) on the 24th, and the call for marshals and volunteers has gone out both on the MB and FaceBook. Kyle Gatier has also asked for support on next month's (April 10th) races at Birmingham Business Park, where we are co-hosting a series of BC races. Both of these are prestigious events, so please help out where you can, and it would be great to see different names volunteering to help out. Details of the April 10th race requirements are all set out here:

...and finally, it's the first of the Beacon Time Trials later this month, so dust off your Planet X frame and get out there...huge thanks to George Lazenby again for sorting this years' series of races.

That's it...have a good week and get involved in these things where you can, it's your club.

Phil
