Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 17th April

Post by WorcsPhil » 11 Apr 2022 11:32

WEEKLY UPDATE:

It's the Easter weekend this weekend, but cycling rolls on like the Paris Roubaix mud... so be good to see riders out on whatever gets organised (thanks to Karl Walton, James Bendle, Nick Shenton and Cedric for leading rides over the weekend)... but please be aware of the golden rule of club runs. Don't up the pace if you're not the leader. As you know, Cedric is leading a series of club runs designed to build riders up to a 300kms ride later in the summer. This is a great initiative, but Cedric is very clear on the pace that these rides will ride at. Please adhere to this, state beforehand if you are cutting off the ride or organise your own B-rides at your pace if you want to go quicker. Surely this is a clear message!!

Rant over.

So a big thank you to Kyle Gatier for co-hosting the Birmingham Business Parks racing day on Sunday. An excellent turn out of racers from across the region, and well done to Roger for his 3rd place finish in the Cat3/4 race and to Kyle himself in the Cat3 race, finishing 11th but beating some notable names in that race. A big thanks also to the Beacon volunteers on the day of course...and I know that Kyle is looking to get some training evenings in over the summer, so all potential racers, look out for that.

There were three Beaconites out on 420kms audaxes over the weekend, so congrats to Michael Stanford and Carina McGovern for finishing the Buckingham Blinder, and to John Williams for his solo 420kms ride in North Somerset, climbing over 6,500m (21,000feet) on his ride on Saturday. Madness!

As the Easter holidays are here, the Beacon Academy events are kicking off again. There is Cannock MTB session for kids which is nearly fully booked up (see the Beacon Academy page for more details - http://beaconrcc.org.uk/beacon-academy-2022-events

...and there's more. There is a innovative 'Skate & Ride' session in Brum on 22nd April . Details and entry are here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/easter-h ... 4877315527

Be great to get Beacon kids along to this, or to all members, please can you publicise it to families with adventurous kids, as it looks a great day out.

So get you rides in for this weekend, and state or stick to the pace that is advertised, or else we'll send the biggest, burliest bloke round to your shed and let your tyres down.

Have a good week.

Phil
