C paced 107miles to Ledbury with 1/2 of LMTT. Sunday 24th. 8:15 am. Shorter 45 & 58 mi routes for those LMTT interested

As per our initial plan let's keep cranking the distance up and venture further into the hundred milers territory  .

This week will be a south westerly ride to Ledbury.
Image

As per Beacon's tradition on LMTT week-end, we'll be going to Great Witley where we'll stop very briefly to see the LMTT racers. We'll then carry on south to Martley to cheer the racers riding back north and we will finish the first loop of the LMTT (well after and much slower than the official racers) before heading towards our southernmost destination Ledbury.

Image

173 km / 107 mi + 1744m / 5720ft elevation
So 'only' 6 miles more than last week but a fair share of climbing (good to build our stamina for the 200km coming and more)

Likely speed 13.5/14 mph
. As we start to reach longer distance, we'll keep focusing on managing the energy over the whole ride.
So average speed is likely to drop a bit (well I keep saying that every week but it still has not quite materialised :? ). Anyway, it's still meant to be a C ride (well C+), bearing in mind and adapting to the speed of the slowest participant.
We'll have a coffee break in Ledbury (dunno where but I am confident we'll find a caf' there) and maybe a short ice cream pit stop on the way back
Meeting at the BH for a 8:15 departure. Return ETA 17:00-17:30 depending on pace and length of stops

For those interested to go to great Witley to see the LMTT but who do not want to do the full 107 miles, you're more than welcome to join us to go there with us. But bear in mind that 1) we'll be arriving there when most of the action will have taken place 2) you'll have to make your way back to Bham alone or as a small group, possible route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/39102340 (58 mile if you follow the route on the LMTT first part, 45 miles if you cut short east in great Witley)

Cedric G.
Ian Gannon
Jon Sadler
Naomi Baker
Andy McGrath
Mark Stammers
Steve Vaughan (for the shorter 58 miles portion)

Please note that due to medical reasons I use a handle-bar extender, a bit like TT-bars. I use this to relief the pain of NHS diagnosed trapped nerves in my wrists and elbow. I do NOT use these to ride like a TT racer, to draft behind others or similar performance seeking stunts.
Every bike ride, be it commute, ride alone or in group, entails its share of risks (bad road surface, motorised traffic, natural elements, our or other riders' mistakes or inattentions...). This is common knowledge and we all ride at our own risk. Nevertheless if my use of this extender this makes you feel uncomfortable, please do not join my rides.

Enjoy Scotland.
And come back full of beans as next week will be roughly the same distance (before we leap into 200k territory).

Hi Cedric,

Hi Cedric
Would it be okay if I use your 58 mile route for the sunday ride b ride I am leading? I will likely do it in reverse.
Apologise - I tried to send a private message but seems to be stuck in my outbox.
Best wishes
Louise

OK Andy, as long as you agree it's a real bimble for you. It's a C. We start to reach distances which are respectable for most (we're not 600k audax supermen here) and thus managing the energy over the distance trumps over speed exploit.

Phil, actual riders who came:
Cedric G (L)
Steve Vaughan (joined us for a convalescence ride up to Great Witley and then made it back home)
Ian Gannon (made it to Ledbury with us but was viciously let down by his reluctant freewheel and hopped on the train back)
Jon Sadler
Naomi Baker
Andy McGrath
Mark Stammers

Thanks all for coming.
Hope you enjoyed that ride to the never explored before Ledbury. Next time we'll bypass the LMTT loop to arrive at the café earlier whilst the pavement is still in the sun and not in the shade. What? There won't be a 'next time'!!
I know most of us suffered at the end but trust me, it's for your own good
Those hilly miles count double and will end up useful for the stamina build-up when we'll reach 200k (or more for the brave/careless/reckless/lunatics (check the useless mentions).
First time we actually rode at the advertised 14mph and not faster which bearing in mind the elevation (and the fierce headwind on the way back) is a pretty good achievement.
Well done to all and let's see you next week for some more lunatic cycling route.
