Upping the ante
I am far from decided or even confident that I will have the staminer for riding the London-Edinburgh-London next year but have chosen this year as a tester.
This weekend I upped the ante by riding two DIY randonees back to back:
- Droitwich - Weymouth - Droitwich plus the dog leg home.
- 307 miles / 495km
- 4,000m of ascent over the Cotswolds, Wiltshire and Dorset Downs
- 20 bottles of fluids consumed
- 20 hours of riding
- 6 hours sleep
- backside that looks as though it belongs to a Baboon
- Met one Chippenham Wheeler whose first question was 'are you practising for LEL of something?'
- under nourished
- 32 degrees in places with molten road surfaces
- overtook triathletes in a race
- enjoyed the lot of it.

It has crossed my mind as it would provide essential resiliance training for the LEL but not until next year. In order to enter, I would need to convince, bribe or blackmail Lisa into providing a support vehicle and catering.George wrote:National 24 hour next, Phil?
Sadly, there is no club prize for such a feat. However I could make up for that deficit by completing National 24hr entitlement for entering the toughest and most mentally deranged race in the World, the RAAM . Saying that, not even in my wildest moment has the RAAM ever been or ever will be a serious consideration. Cycling non-stop at an average 18mph for 7 days is not my idea of enjoyable cycling.
