Mad March Hare Sportive 2014

Post by WorcsPhil » 26 Nov 2013 23:24

I read that entries open for the Mad March Hare sportive on sunday (1st December). The event itself is on March 2nd 2014, a week after the Sunrise/Snowdrop Beacon Audax...two 75milers in 2 weeks to kick-start the spring.

There were a few Beaconites on this event earlier this year, and it would be good to get a few more next year in full white, red and green regalia. Details on their website and facebook page (search for Madmarchhare)

Also entered...I think this sells out in a week and is a third full already, so if you're wavering...enter sooner rather than later

I've had second thoughts. Although it's a good, well organised event with a nice route I just can't reconcile the £17.50 entry fee with a bike ride on fairly local roads.

You are right Nic. I saw the organiser have said that BC have doubled their charges though and added a fee plus they are having timing chips and are still to confirm start venue. But still way better value than other sportives. We can leave/finish from bournville to make it better miles/£ value?!

Mad March Meet up

Post by StuartWhite » 23 Feb 2014 17:57

There seems to be a load of Beacon riders signed up for this one, anybody up for a group meet up and travel over en mass?

Perhaps meet at the Red Lion in Kings Heath (Wednesday night meeting place) or something along those lines...
Cheers,

Stu

Looks like you and I thus far Mark.
Let's say we'll be meeting in the Red Lion car park on Sunday, and anybody that would like to join us for the ride over is welcome.

Barry, be great to have a shadow Beacon pack along for the ride.
Cheers,

Stu

What time for the meet at Red Lion Stu?

I note they are allowing pre registration from Thursday which should make things a little easier on the day.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE secure your bike at the Mad March Hare....

At a recent nearby sportive, riders had less luck.

It starts between 8 and 9:30am, would it be worth getting there by 7:30am to allow everybody to complete registration?

Pending no ice. We'll be leaving at 7 then. From the Red Lion. Kings Heath.

There's 20 odd Beacon riders so we'll meet in the car park instead of the usual place out front just in case everybody turns up.
Cheers,

Stu

i have pre-registered for a small group of beaconites. 7am does seem early if you've got your number so we've agreed to meet at 8am at the red lion.

we'll be heading out to cult racing directly, down the alcester road/hollywood lane/norton lane... etc so should be there around 8.25 and ready to just pass over the mat on the start line.

anyone please feel free to join us.

all being well, yes.

if theres anyone registering on the morning of the event that's been stuck in a queue, waiting to get their number and chip, we could probably linger a few minutes.

but it would be nice to get away as near to 8.30 as possible.

Cracking route again this year with about the right mix of climbing.
Got a fantastic tailwind about half way round, rode most of the route on my own, just to avoid any sillyness on the hills, completed it in around 3hrs 30mins, still too exhausted to download the file..

A well organised event..and listening to the rain lashing outside now, we definitely got the best of the weather today. The headwind on the way out was unnecessarily cruel but the tailwind on the way back was amazing! I rode out to the event and back so did about 76 miles today. A testing return to the road bike after 5 months off :?
Hope all you Beaconites made it up 'the' hill. There were a fair few walking wounded..

Here are the splits from today:

OUT
60.3 km @ (active average) 28.5 kph c/w bitch of a headwind!

IN
45.4 km @ 30.8 kph

About 1200 m of ascent

Great riding with you all today

Very impressive time Ed, especially solo. I see you came in about 14 out of field of 700ish; chapeau.
