Anyone done it, or thinking of doing it?

I was going to do it last year Andy but missed out on getting a vintage bike so didn't bother in the end.

I may do it this year subject to getting a suitable steed. The route itself is great and I did the 55 mile loop last year.

It is pricey just if you only intend on doing the ride but good value if taking in the other activities over the course of the weekend.

Tempting, in fact very tempting, but I would have to change the rear mech as its from 1990 . any body got a 1960's mech

It sounds like fun, but unfortunately the classic bike I've just started restoring is strictly a TT bike with a single 51T ring. It doesn't go up hills (not with me turning the pedals, anyway). Also, it has modern bar-routed cabling, which is against the rules, apparently... although I don't know why, because it's authentic pre-87 equipment.

I've entered the 50 miler but now need to source a suitable bike preferably a low geared classic tourer like I used to have in the 1970s. My retro bike is too modern alas.

That's a silly rule. My single speed will have bar routed brake cables and I am pretty sure this was around before 1987. The levers are Dia compe ones, from the late 1990's, but are the same levers as I am sure I had on a "Revel Elite" fast tourer (smashed up in a serious argument with a London Cabbie) in the early eighties.

I will be using duel pull brakes, which came out in the early nineties, though so not correct anyway! And there is no way I am going back to clips and straps.......
