2016 Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 - club entry

Well ... failed to get in through the ballot for the second time running.

If there is a possibility of a Beacon team entry I would be interested in taking a place.

Not sure how the process works - I think Phil R organised it last year.

Found this on the web site:

British Cycling Club Challenge

We are again offering British Cycling affiliated clubs the chance to apply for team entries for this 100-mile event. Team categories are all men, all women or mixed (two men and two women).

Successful teams will be informed in March 2016.

Each rider within the team will have had to pay their own entry fee (£58) and complete their own online entry form; all four riders in the team must complete and pay for their entry by April 2016 or the team will lose its place.

There are places for 400 teams in the British Cycling Club Challenge.

Every club that had a team riding in the 2015 event and applies for 2016 is guaranteed a minimum of one team in the 2016 event.

If you have any enquires please email: clubs@ridelondon.co.uk

Please note:

- A team comprises four riders.
- Every rider in a team must be a current British Cycling member.
- Teams can comprise four men or four women or a mixed team of two men and two women.
- Riders who hold an Elite or Category 1 British Cycling Race Licence are not eligible to enter the Club Challenge.
- Riders who have already secured an individual place through the original entry ballot or a charity place are not eligible to enter the British Cycling Club Challenge.

Hi Andy...and another failure for me for the third year running...think this is discrimination against gingers!

Yes, I did organise it last year, and the year before that, and would be happy to do so again. Last year we got two teams entered via the club ballot but we applied for three teams, so you, John Deeley and Gareth Powley fell on your swords.

We agreed then that you three plus one other have first refusal for the guaranteed Beacon Club entry. I think we should stand by this decision from a year ago.

We can of course, go for more teams, so if anybody is really, really interested, i.e you failed the ballot and/or really want to do this ride and can commit the two days required and entry fee/accommodation/travel costs of about £150...post to this thread.

We have a few weeks to get the team entries in, and I'm happy to co-ordinate till we know how many teams we get allocated.

Post here if interested.

I've given up trying to get in via the Ballot, tried 3 times now...3 failures. If there is a place going on a Beacon Team..I'm up for that.

Looks like we have the seeds of potential 'A' and 'B' teams.

Thanks for volunteering to organise this again, Phil. I asked about the application process and got the following reply which I think means the same process as last year:

Hi Andy,

Thanks for your email.

Further information on applying for a cycling club entry will be made available in the upcoming weeks, applications have yet to open. Please keep an eye out on our website https://www.prudentialridelondon.co.uk/ ... challenge/ for further information.

Kind regards,

Callum

Hi All,

Firstly, thanks again Phil for organising.
I'd love to do this again but accept I am bottom of the list after bagging a place last year.
If I could be considered as 4th rider for a second team or something along those lines that'd be great.

This is me registering an interest but there are plenty who should be placed before me on the list.

Thanks for volunteering to organise again Phil.

I would like to ride this year if we're putting a team in.

I received an e-mail from BC today saying that the team entry application system will open on 29 February and will close at 17:00 on 14 March. At this stage, a co-ordinator needs to specify the number of team places we want as a club, but not the names of the riders.

Thanks, Laurence...Very helpful.

At present, there are 6 possible entrants stating their interest, suggesting two Beacon entries.

Can those who are keen and willing to say yes if we get through the ballot, post here. I will put forward the number of Beacon teams based on names posted here by March 13th.

As above, we are guaranteed at least one team which will include Andy Terry, John Deeley and Gareth Powley unless they declare themselves unavailable. Hence, a regular C-rider would be particularly welcome.

As above, very interested but after those who missed out last year.

Yes, got you James and Stu.

To avoid any doubt, names so far are:

Guaranteed Team:
Andy Terry, John Deeley, Gareth Powley, VACANCY

TEAM 2 relying on ballot
James Tate, Stuart White, Phil Richards, VACANCY

We can apply for other teams if there is any interest, we could also be sneaky and apply for 3 anyway, which might guarantee us 2....

Register interest on this thread...

I thoroughly enjoyed last years ride and would gladly seize another opportunity if there is a spot available, without wishing to deny anyone who has not yet ridden of course.

Almost there ... just one more and we have 2 teams.

Last orders at the bar.

I need to enter two teams before Monday, and we could really do with a keen C-rider to enter the Beacon guaranteed team. Although no names are required for entries at present, if we do get a late boost in interest, I may go for 3 teams in the hope we get 2. Andy/John/Gareth, use your persuasive powers in the cafe on Sunday

We have 7 names so far, surely we can get 2 teams to wear the Beacon colours with pride in London...

As per previous post, I would like a spot if there is one free

So I've entered us for three Beacon teams, and we'll find out on 21st March how many we have.

If we get two or three and don't get the manpower, no worries, we just pay for the number of teams we can muster.

Seven names so far, so names still being accepted...It may seem a long way away, or a bit of a hassle, or a bit costly, but this closed road experience is second to none and is worth the hassle in my view...no give ways, no cars, just fast cycling.

just heard that RideLondon100 Club ballot results will be announced on Thursday 24th, not today...will post again when I hear more

The tactic of applying for 3 teams has paid off as I've just been emailed to say that Beacon RCC has been allocated TWO male teams for RideLondon100 2016.

So we have 7 names who are guaranteed a starting place, namely:

Andy Terry
Gareth Powley
John Deeley
Phil Richards
Stuart White
James Tate
Andy Clayton

We need one more Beaconite to take up the last guaranteed space, not bothered whether you've entered before or not, get your name down otherwise three people will be let down.

The event is on Sunday 31 July, one week after Kiddy Killer, so there should be loads of fit cyclists around...surely we can get this last slot filled?

I'll probably stay at the in-laws (stevenage) drive & park up somewhere reasonably close then bike it to/from the start...

If there's still a vacancy I'd be very interested in riding it! What are people's thoughts on accommodation and travel down?

I need to join BC for this event and it looks like the cheapest route is Bronze Race membership (£22), with 50% discount for being a member of an affiliated club. I'm told I need a discount code - any idea who to contact in the Beacon for that?

That's me. The codes are NEWCMRA (Race) and NEWCMRD (Ride). See also https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/clubs/membership. The Race Bronze membership should actually be free in the first year with the club discount.

Everybody has had long enough now - Matt Clegg...you're in!

To avoid boring people with details, please can Andy Terry, John Deeley, Gareth Powley, Matt Clegg, James Tate, Andy Clayton and Stuart White email phil.richards@atkinsglobal.com using an address you actually use regularly and I'll outline the next steps.

Suspect James, Andy, Matt and Stu will be the 'Hare' team, and the rest of the us will be the 'Tortoise' team...an interesting analogy.

Andy, hope the link below works, if not drop me a pm with your email address and I'll see if that works

If not, just google queen Mary university London accommodation and you'll soon come across it. It's the Whitechapel location.

Code is RIDE2016, think headline price is £57 but code discounts it to £40

Good luck

I've seen the ballot is open again, would the club be doing this again or is best to put a solo entry in?

Posted: 12 Aug 2016 10:36
by WorcsPhil
Hi Gavin, the ballot is indeed open, but the Club event does not open till February next year. So best to just apply and see if you get in...using this club route as a back up if necessary.

We're likely to be guaranteed one team at least as we've entered the last 3 years.
