100 in ??? (Now Aug 4)

Post by bobg » 01 Jul 2013 17:25

I've had it in my head for some time that i want to ride 100miles in a day. (the last one was about 55 years ago.) So have now set a date for 11th August. At the moment i am looking at a route via Meriden and out towards Leicester, then back via Charlcote. 3 stops and a very easy pace, 11 - 12 mph. Might get a bit lonely by myself, so if anyone wants to come along for the ride your very welcome.

Sounds just up my street (I'll have to swap the date of the club run I've offered to lead though). I hope you've figured out how to BBQ pasta.

Is the start in Catshill?

Hmm, sounds interesting Bob, three cafe stops is a grand enticement. There's a small matter of possibly one or two drinks the night before, but as long as you're not setting out too early? Might even drag the missus along if she can get a bit of training in beforehand

If you can't join Bob, I'm planning a 'C' version of the 100-in-whatever on August 25th using the 'classic' 100-in-8 route via Tewkesbury (or Upton) and Evesham.

I'll join you on this one Bob if you don't mind, three days after my 52nd birthday and I've never ridden that far before.

I might join you if I can get enough miles in before hand and if I can arrange an emergency exit lift home if the pace is quicker than anticipated!

100 miles

Post by bobg » 21 Jul 2013 16:09

To allow people to sober up after the Beacon Barbecue I have decided to move my 100 in ??? forward to Aug 18th. I know this is only 1 week before Andy's 100 in 8, but will be good training if you want to do both!
I have also now planned a different route to the one I originally intended.
There is not much in the way of hills, and certainly no steep ones. For my benefit it will be a touring ride, The first stop at Defford about 34 miles, then round the south of Evesham to Bidford glider club, about 65 miles the final stop being the pub at Bearley and about 18 miles back to the B H.
Finally, if anyone does get into trouble my wife has offered to come to the rescue. Just hope that I am included in that.

I'll probably have to withdraw then - I think I can manage 100 miles after a few sausages but I doubt I'll be up to it the day after 100 miles including The Clee to Heaven audax.

Sorry about the mix up Steve. Was looking forward to having you on the ride. I really did not make a very good job of sorting dates.
Not sure how many others were coming along, so maybe Aug. 4 could be a better option ? So, if those who would like to join me can let me know with a prefered date we can make a final, final decision.

Just need to upgrade from metric to imperial after today's ride, let's hope the weather forecast stays as it is.

Thanks to Bob for organising this and to Ken, Rob, Dave, Richard & Paul. Most enjoyable and the company was so good I hardly noticed the rain.

I second that, a thoroughly enjoyable day. I am bloody starving now though.

Nice pics Paul, thank you. But everyone looks remarkably fresh, maybe we didn't try hard enough. This was a journey into the unknown for a few of us, but for anyone wanting to do a similar ride, don't be put off by the distance. It is the speed, (or lack of it) particularly on the hills that makes this ride quite doable. and as Andy Terry said you need to work together as a team. Cant wait for next year.
