I'm just looking to book a last minute weeks holiday in either Gran Canaria or Tenerife in early November. Does anyone have any experience of either locations and potential resorts to stay? I will just be travelling solo, so just looking for cheap and cheerful, with somewhere that does organised rides (either shop rides or an organised group).
I have already discounted Mallorca (too cold and been there loads), Anadalucia / Sierra Nevada (same reason) and the winds of Lanzarorote don't really appeal.

Can highly recommend Tenerife. Especially if you like climbing! The most ascent in least milage possible in Europe. But you can do more coastal stuff too eg North West around masta. I've only ever stayed with family on North side in Puerto de la Cruz and hired a bike there. Best if you stay south side, Costa Adeje sort of area as north side generally more prone to cloud although still very good just touch cooler. Several bike hire and guide companies in south, I follow some on Facebook will send you them. Think Gran Canaria attracts more triathletes but climate in both great. I'm going to Tenerife in Feb. My father in law who's based there might know of apartments or hotel options will ask. Take arm warmers/gilet/maybe rain Cape if you plan to descend north side towards Oratava, Puerto as you descend through clouds. Can be 35degrees going up south side and 8 descending at top through rain cloud on North side.

Cyclist magazine has done two big rides/articles on Tenerife, they might still be on their facebook page or I can dig out the copies, Ive kept them somewhere to see who they rode and stayed with

I've hired a bike twice the last couple of years from a shop in Las Americas called bike point, very helpful, good bikes and reasonably priced. As Tim said it's the longest continuous climb in Europe up teide! Costa adeje is about 10-15 mins from bike point on the bus which is opposite siam Park (water park)

If you want to do it properly stay here for the full altitude benefits and pro experience, Froome or Armstrong may have slept in your bed!
