Closed track training sessions

Post by Doug Brum » 05 Mar 2013 13:27

There has been some discussion on here (see thread below) about training sessions for those who road race and those who want to have a go. It was agreed last night at the committee meeting that the club would pay for some training sessions at Stourport (this being the logical place to have it as most people race on here). Also Ruth would be prepared to come down and give us some coaching as long as we had a few members out.
What days do you think would be best for holding these sessions? What dates would be good?

I think you may need to re-read the above post...

I think the sooner the better. Evenings (any) suit me , Saturday mornings are kind of difficult.

Thanks for taking this up, Doug, and it's great that Ruth is willing to lend some time. Evenings and Saturday afternoons are good for me.

Hi Doug, did we get anywhere with this? I know that not many people have responded, but a fair few people have told me informally that they'd be interested so it would be a shame if we couldn't organise something.

Not that I know of, but I'll mention it to Doug when I next see him. Hopefully he'll be at the TT on Wednesday.

These sessions would be great, I would definately benefit, but having now done 3 circuit races I think it is also a case of just giving them a go.

I have now done one race at each of Stourport, Tudor Grange and Lichfield/Curborough and although not close to finishing top 10 yet I am feeling far more confident, haven't caused a crash (as yet!) and think Im getting a touch better each time. So far I like Curborough the best although thats maybe just because it was most recent and the sun was shining! Im goin to enter the 3 Royal Sutton Weds night races there too.

Lawrence if you can cycle to Weston and back you will find 20miles around a circuit a walk in the park!

I really enjoyed it. Ideal track in my novice opinion: one v tight bend, one sweeping bend, one chicane and long slightly up hill straight. Sending off application form today for the 3 Royal Sutton weds night races coming up there as I'm keen to go back and see if I can place better. I was just too cautious in 1st lap which left me in a second group almost immediately. Need to stay in first third during opening laps.

I finally bumped into Doug this Wednesday and it sounds like we're making some progress with this. It's been held up a bit by the difficulties of finding a coach and a convenient time, but looks like Greg might be leading it with his new coaching qualification. Hopefully there'll be more updates soon.
