Severn Bridge RR Result
Before the very unfortunate incident in the Elite race down in South Gloucestershire on 3rd March there was a support race for 3rd category riders only. The race was an easy 27 miles (4 laps of a 10km circuit) featuring a nasty climb to the finish. Not only were points being awarded for placing but also there were KOM points given on the first 3 times up the climb.
I went in to the race wanting to collect the KOM points and then relax during the penultimate lap an see how well I could do overall. All went to plan on the first two laps where I was first to the top both times (collecting enough points to secure my KOM win). I then sat at the back of the leading pack for the remainder of the race as the climbs were really tough and I had competition on the second one which meant I was really sore.
I got back into position coming up to the final climb and large group of us attacked half way up the finishing climb, but I was all the way on the outside meaning I had to brake and come in behind some riders as I car was blocking my path. This was very unfortunate as it meant I had lost all my momentum and had to really dig deep to catch up. I was still able to get 10th place overall which I was very pleased about as the field was nearly 80 riders strong.
10th place - £15
KOM - £50 and a specially made KOM Winners Jersey.
