Well done everyone. Can't say it upset me too much not to be riding today. The pictures are at

Can I say especially well done to Patrick I think he did great and I'm sorry if you got sent the wrong way. If you hadn't I've calculated that you would have done 28.07. I think it would be great if you came and did some more have a look at the 9 mile ones we do a bit lat in the year.

Handicap points

Post by Simon Dighton » 22 Mar 2014 20:33

Draft handicap points are as follows. Aiming to publish the full table of handicaps over the next couple of weeks but in the meantime here are today's results. Not much to do in the way of handicapping calcs as most people have ridden the course before. Kevin gets the standard time and Amarjit is based on the same as Steve Morton based on how close they were in times last year.

Anyone fancy explaining in really simple terms how the handicap system works? I've no idea as this was my first time trial! Thanks!

You need to do a really slow time in your first TT Kev

Seriously though - well done!

Every course has a base time (kind of like the par for a hole in golf). Each rider then gets a handicap time for that course based on the difference between the base time and their best time on that course in the past three years (I think it's three years). So, for this course my best time is 2 minutes 25 seconds slower than the base time, which becomes my handicap. You have a 3-minute handicap, which is assigned to riders who haven't ridden TTs before. This handicap is deducted from your time on the day to give you a time for the handicap competition. The winner gets 40 points, second 39, etc. I think that's right!

Thanks to the organisers and timekeepers yesterday. I enjoyed it despite the weather - who needs to be able to feel the brakes on a time trial anyway?

Having seen Patch's pictures (and therefore the weather), I doff my hat to everyone who took part in this event.

Congratulations to Martin on his first win of the year (within the club). Laurence's ride also looks very impressive when you consider that he was riding a road bike.
