OK so all riders start with a base time, which for this TT was 20 minutes. If you have ridden on the course before and set a PB (in the last 3 seasons) of e.g. 25:00 you get an adjustment of 25 - 20 = 5:00, which gets taken away from your actual finishing time to give a handicap time. So if you then did the course in 24:30 your handicap time would be 19:30.jdtate101 wrote:How exactly is the handicap worked out? Not sure I can tell from the above post. Is it a combination of age and other factors?
If you haven't done the course before the adjustment is set at a standard level. It is 4:30 on this course for men, but is higher for women, veterans (not sure of age boundary) and juniors.
There's a spreadsheet on here somewhere which sets a lot of this out; if you can't find it someone like Brian, Chris H or Simon D should have a copy of it.
PS done this from memory of looking at this ages ago so hope I've got it right!

Each rider is given a handicap time for a course which is their PB less the base time for that course if they have ridden the course before. If they have not ridden the course a time is estimated based on their other results compared to riders of similar strengths. For riders new to TT a base standard handicap is given if they have ridden 4 or fewer events (which is applied in your case). This base handicap is then deducted from your actual time to give the final result with the proviso that the lowest time you can have is the base time for that course. There should be a link to the detailed rules from the website but let me know if you cannot find.
Basically if you then beat a PB you will end up doing well on the points and you will now have a real handicap on last week's course.

Perfectly explained Richard. Simon Dighton works all this out. He does exercise some discretion if courses are similar over the same distance. So for example you may consistently do middling 23min 10s. If you then ride a club 10 on a course you haven't got a time for but is similar to most other 10 courses Simon will usually use your time from the other course.

Cheers Martin, great ride yourself, i really enjoy that circuit, rode my first ever TT on thoses roads when i was 17 and used the circuit for years to train around on my road bike, hopefully ill be there again this week, thanks to everybody who helped run the event, ill like a bigger push off this week though Chris!martin mc wrote:Thanks to Chris, Laurence, Paul & Pauls Mrs for timekeeping, marshalling etc, not easy with such a great turnout. Well done Scott, cracking time, does anyone know if that's a course record? Fastest time I could find in our archives was 21.06
