Club 50 Championships
Held on a slightly chillier than expected morning over at Alcester with a good turnout from Beacon. Ride of the day was undoubtedly from Dave Hughes who came in at 2-03-39 and was 2nd overall on VET standard time being only beaten (just) by Mark Corbett from Worcester who is only just a VET and rode a 1-49-59. Keith Adcock won the overall handicap (not the Beacon score) competition so a good day for the club
Times in full
1 Simon Dighton 2-02-35
2 Dave Hughes 2-03-39
3 Steve Croggon 2-07-48
4 Keith Adcock 2-19-30

Handicap results to follow soon.

That is very kind of you Simon. However congratulations must go to you for retaining your 50 mile TT title. I had a good day. I thought that it was because I had paced it well but examination of my Garmin files showed that I had gone off too fast, I covered the first 10 m in 23:01! Not a smart move for a 50m TT but probably typical of a track man!.
Congrats to Keith. for the H/C prize.

Thanks for kind words everyone but seriously Mr President, I have only done three of these killers in my entire life, do you really think I am going to do three this year!
Hi Rod, I had no idea what I had done in the past but Anne dug out my old results book. It turns out that I had completed 2 previous 50's, the fastest of which was an M.C.C.A. event on 7 June 1981, when I beat my first effort by over 2 ½ mins, recording a time of 2:17:33. So this was a 14 min improvement after a break of 35 yrs. I'll take that!
Re the training and the winter. Yes I have done regular training, initially in a (vain) attempt to keep up with the B club run which keeps exceeding club guidelines. (Of course i'm only joking B runners. Keep your trigger fingers off the keyboards!) I don't do that many miles, (<200/wk) but done with science. The main difference from many other racers (who go much faster than me) is I prefer to do it on the open road rather than the turbo. I think the turbo would improve my times but I loath it with a vengeance.
As far as this result pleases me it pales besides what my wife has done. (My domestic life is currently unbearable!)
“Coming dear, and yes I have got all your equipment bags with me”.

Not surprisingly Dave takes all the points! (I did not even bother taking off the extra 1% off the time for being a super VET)

I have been using the 40 kmh for one hour as a standard bench mark for the youngsters wanting to ride Crits, hiding in the bunch. Pretty sure that Dave just did that, in the wind for two hours!!!!
I think it's time Dave and Anne came down to one of the Tudor Grange sessions and showed all the young hopefuls how it's done
