Silverstone 9-up TTT 9th June 2017

Last year a team of us from Beacon took part in the Silverstone 9-up team time trial - it was brilliant fun and I would love to get more Beacon riders entered for the 2017 event.

The race consists of 3 laps of the Silverstone race circuit (around the same bit that the cars race in F1 - it's a chance to time trial in a car-free environment, on the silkiest smooth tarmac imaginable, riding as a team). Total distance is approximately 11 miles (just over 3 miles per lap). 9 riders start together, with the team's time taken based on the 5th rider over the finish line - so it's important to work together to get to the finish, and look after your team mates - going off the front of your group alone won't get you a medal! In a mixed team, of the 5+ finishing together, 2+ must be of one gender, and 3+ of the other.

Last year our mixed team all managed to stay together as a team of 9 to the end, and got ourselves a bronze medal in the mixed team category :)

The rules around kit are fairly straightforward, and makes the race a more level playing field - road bike kit only (no pointy helmets, deep section wheels, discs etc).

Talking to a few of you, it sounds like there is definitely interest for a fast mixed team again. It would be great to get another team or 2 signed up as well. Last year it cost approx £30 each to enter (all proceeds going to charity) - I'm not sure what the exact cost will be this year, but it won't be far off that.

If you are keen to take part, please comment below, with whether you would be interested in a faster team or a steadier team - with 45 men's teams, 6 vets teams, 15 mixed teams and 9 women's teams entered in 2016 there is plenty of competition, so it is very much about enjoying taking part in a unique race. It doesn't matter how fast or otherwise you are - I will make sure you are put with riders who are as similar as possible.

Any questions, let me know

Jess

I'm definitely up for this again, last year was great fun. Likewise, happy to ride in whatever team would be appropriate.

I make that 14 of us keen so far! Are there another 4 who would be keen to take part this year? When entries open I will need to get in there quick with (hopefully) two team entries - and will need entry money off everyone then. It would be great to have two full teams - looks like a roughly equal split so far of faster and steadier preference mixed teams which would be perfect

If there's room, I'd do it again. Don't mind being the engine room again... :D

Entries open next week and I will need to get in fast to get our spots!

There are 17 people who have commented above - we need 18 guaranteed people for me to sign up for 2 teams. Is anyone who has commented above now not able to make it? And does anyone know of anybody else who would be keen? There will be a fast mixed team and a steady mixed team - we've got enough for the minimum number of women with Clare, Helen, Gemma and I between the 2 teams, so any further interest from either men or women would be good!

I will be organising a practice session at Halesowen for anyone taking part to practice riding with their team before the event as well

Quite a few of us didn't wear Beacon kit last year as we didn't have Beacon skinsuits. Obviously it would be nice to do it in club kit, but I don't think it's essential.

The full list of people who I think are keen to take part from a combination of this post and the Facebook post are listed below :)

Some of you have specifically requested the faster team, and some the steadier team, however I suspect there is a leaning towards more people who would prefer the faster team. With this in mind, I am proposing that the fairest way to manage this is for anyone who wants to go into the faster team, to do a timed effort as part of a seeding session at Halesowen. I will also make this a practice session for both teams with your team mates - this training session worked really well last year and helped us to decide on our strategy for the day!

Regardless of which team you are in and where we all come on the day, you will have a fun time! If you want to be in the faster team and would not want to take part in the steadier team, please let me know. I will need to pay for 2 team entries (total nearly £600!) in the next week or so, so will be after money from all of you soon :) last year was approx £30 each - I can imagine it will be similar this year but I will let you know as soon as I know.

Silverstone 9-up entries are open!

I am about to pay £560 for 2 team entries (£32.22 each) to BMCC so will be needing money from you soon!

The list of people below is everyone who has said they want to take part. As said before, the fairest way to split us into 2 teams is to do a timed effort as part of a seeding session at Halesowen outdoor track, therefore splitting us into a fast and steady mixed team, each with a minimum of 2 ladies.

Please let me know by tomorrow evening (Weds 3rd May) if you can no longer take part.

I am conscious that there are probably more fast group-preference riders in the list, therefore also please let me know (on here, or Facebook) if you would prefer to be in the faster team and would not be happy to take part in the steady team following the seeding session. This is the fairest way to split everyone, so please make sure you will be happy to be in either team. If this is not the case, please let me know by tomorrow (Weds) evening.

Hi everyone

We are currently 2 riders short of 2 full teams for the Silverstone 9-up team time trial on Friday 9th June. I have done it the last 2 years and had a brilliant time, the atmosphere there is a great and silverstone race track is some seriously smooth tarmac! it doesn't matter how fast or otherwise you are, we have one faster and one steadier team entered. It's just over £30 each for the entry fee. You would need to be able to get to Silverstone for 5pm on Friday 9th June, and ideally to a practice session I am running 3-5pm on Sunday 4th June at halesowen.

Please let me know if you would like to take part :)

Hi Jess

I can happily ride (fast group if poss please) and if short Sam my middle son can ride (steady group).

Can make it down on Sun 4th although will have to sneak off at qtr to 5 as in process of sorting out diary found out that Kate has a secret birthday BBQ planned for me on that day.

Happy to drive down in van - can take 5 people (incl me) with bikes
Let me know what works, best

Simon

Brilliant job everyone at the Silverstone 9-up TTT last night! It was a great evening, with 18 Beacon members taking part and one 3rd place on the famous Silverstone podium! Roll on next year :)
