Nice one Martin. So by my reckoning if you got 40 points for that you will have gained 3 to your score moving you up to 1 behind gary.

Just working on the points now with the aim of making sure we have all points ready for the season's finale in a week's time with the handicap times all in easy format for the final push.

Handicap update

Post by Simon Dighton » 09 Sep 2013 20:04

Results from last week’s hill climb show Martin as the winner scooping all 40 points and staying in contention for the overall handicap trophy. As this is a comparatively unused course handicap times are based on doubling the traditional hill climb times – bit rough on John H but still picking up 37 points. Points are as follows

HC1
Martin McGowan 00:08:20 00:01:14 00:07:06 40
Rhys Richards 00:09:12 00:01:44 00:07:28 39
Brian Botfield 00:10:26 00:02:58 00:07:28 39
John Hitchcock 00:09:16 00:00:16 00:09:00 37

And the handicap table looks like this with the final winner not decided until Sunday – either Gary or Martin;

Position Cum KH/32 K35/6G * 2 K22/39 K34/25 K8/10 K36/4.5*2 K33/10D K36/4.5*2 K36/4.5*2 K36/4.5*2 Chmp 50 K36/4.5*2 KH/32 K34/10D K34/25 K20/5 New K20/5 New K35 / 6G*2 K35/6G KH28

Handicap status

Post by Simon Dighton » 09 Sep 2013 20:05

It’s down to the last TT of the year and a two horse race between Martin McGowan and Gary Macintosh. Gary has a slim one point advantage over Martin and both have raced a full complement of races. This means that to increase their scores they must score more points than their lowest contributing points TT. For example Gary’s lowest score is 36 and to increase Gary must have a handicap position of 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th. Marin’s lowest score is 37 and therefore Martin’s target is 1st, 2nd or 3rd – ie losing the 37 points but gaining 40,39 or 38 points respectively. Turnout is always high for this traditional event and only Beacon riders who have ridden a TT this year are counted for the handicap calculation. Slight advantage to Gary but Martin posted a 40 pointer last week and a repeat would see him go at least equal top. The list of riders and their handicaps who, if they ride, count on Sunday is shown below so calculations can be done at Waseley over bacon sandwiches and coffee immediately afterwards. Confirmation will then follow as soon as I get back from cyclo cross racing! Good luck to everyone.
Restricted riders cannot have a better time than 3 minutes – this is due to their time being calculated on a base time due to not having previously ridden the hill climb and too few events this year to make a meaningful estimate.

Hope that is all clear!

Big thanks to timekeepers & helpers- Dave, Eric, Gladys & Maggie for giving up your time to do this. We were lucky with the weather as the forecast showers held off.
Just a query Simon, in the event of a tie on handicap points after the Hill Climb on Sunday is it classed as a draw or is there some other method of detrermining handicap competition winner?

This is exciting. I don't know whether I'm going to be able to sleep on Saturday night. Just one query, Simon: I don't want to do myself out of 5th place, but there seem to be two people in 2nd. Is this a typo, or am I missing something?

Thats not 3 minutes in outright time but rather handicapped time, eg.if you have a handicap on this course of 1min30secs and actually clocked a time of 4 minutes exactly you would get a handicapped time of 2mins30secs if your time wasn't restricted to 3 minutes.
People who have raced the course before have a handicap time based on previous best eg. mine is 1min7secs as I clocked 4mins7secs last year. If I clocked 4 minutes exactly this year my handicapped time would be 2mins53secs & that time isn't restricted.
This only applies to the handicap points for the handicap competition, this is still the Club Hill Climb Championship & that is decided on outright time on the day.
Confused? Good, just turn up & have a go anyway.

Just picked up a few questions and checking some answers.

Firstly Laurence as the easiest answer is for some reason I have two 2nd places. Chris Hudson should instead be 3rd and everyone else moves down a place.

Martin busy checking the rule book if a tie. Will come back to you before Sunday so we all know.

Neil - I originally had you down as first but think I must have found a different handicap for you which moved you into 8th and 33 points. My revised records show a time of 57-47 in 2010 and a handicap of 10-47 instead of the original handicap given. I can only apologise I did not highlight this at the time.

Please let me know if any more questions and thanks for highlighting the above.
Best

Handicap tie

Post by Simon Dighton » 14 Sep 2013 14:24

Rulebook is silent in the event of a tie so suggest trophy is shared for this year if tied and rules are then updated. Haven't got Committee clearance on this though!
