Tonight's ride hit almost summertime speeds. Phew!

A newcomer, Sam who came on the B ride Sunday last, had a fall on Brockhill Lane. Those who spoke to him after says he maintains he was ok to get home. Don't know if anyone knows him or whether he uses this message board but I just wanted to make sure he's (relatively) ok.

Sam put a message on Strava saying he hasnt been put off the ride, however has chipped a bone in his hand and is in a cast for 6 weeks.

Hopefully he will be back riding before long. Shame it happened on his first ride. I think maybe a lot of us take it for granted that everyone knows the route, although im sure this had no impact on the incident on Wednesday, just one of them things!

A rare, possibly unprecedented outbreak of common sense this evening as the brave/foolish trio who ventured out to the Red Lion elected not to ride in the cold, wet and pretty unpleasant conditions. Apologies to any late arrivals who may have wondered if the ride had left - not sure if I passed one of the usual group (Stuart?) as I headed for home.

Here's hoping for better conditions next week...

It looks like Stuart rode on his own then, however looking on Strava something happened as it ended abruptly. Hopefully it was a mechanical that meant he couldn't carry on and not an off

... so after I left Ian and Keith, Stuart caught me up outside my house and we did the ride. Stu **flat**d heading towards the sprint by Kings Norton cemetery and I stayed with him until he pinched his first replacement tube and called for a lift. Conditions weren't that bad out in the lanes, though I could have done with thicker socks.

I only know this route, 56 km:

but I read there is a longer route? Are we doing that now? If so, some one got the route.... for when I get dropped!

I'm not out myself but we're still doing the normal 35 mile Wednesday route at the moment as it's dark for the last 45 minutes or so.

I doubt you'll be dropped Barry :D

Bum! I failed on two counts tonight. I'd forgotten what time it started and thought it was 7.15pm but as I didn't leave work until 6.00pm I wouldn't have made it anyway. I'll try again soon.

Thinking of testing my legs on the Wednesday night ride (if I can get away from work in time). Where and what time is the meet?
Thanks

Nice one Carl it was good to have you along. As Wednesday rides go tonight was towards the top end speed wise. Come the Autumn things slow down a bit, hopefully at least, to keep things safe.

See you next week.

These rides look to have increased this year, hopefully ill be back in full flight next year. Especially as my new set up won't have had as much use as intended. Nic I've changed the saddle to a black brooks and it looks a lot nicer now.

Take care at meeting point tonight. Hit deck in an oil slick at 7 this morning in front of red lion going from Stirchley towards Solihull. Xrays on wrist all clear luckily

Bad luck Tim, hope you mend asap.
I noticed the same slick this morning approaching the lights opposite The Red Lion.

Many thanks for posting the warning.

I'm ok luckily. Driver right up my ass luckily stopped in time and was able to drive round me without the need to stop to ask if I was ok! Seen lot of oil in recent weeks.

Question it's got me thinking is:

After this spill on oil and a similar spill a year ago on ice, should I be commuting on a cx bike? N+1!

Hi Alex - there should be riders meeting at the Red Lion at 7pm every week, though many of us are competing in club TTs on Wednesdays at the moment.

Hi I am new here

i will try my best to join intro ride this sunday. And i am also interested to join wednesday ride. I restarted cycling few weeks ago and manage to ride 23km in 1hour. I can't go further due to limited knowledge of the area and UK road cycling rules.

Please advice

Welcome, Rajul. You might find the Wednesday night ride a bit quick at this time of year if you're still getting back into cycling (the average speed is over 30 km/h at this time of year), but you'll have no problem with the intro ride. The Sunday club runs are a good way to get to know the area on a bike and meet new people who can give you advice on where's best to ride.
