Just as a thought for 2015, Chris 'Hoppo' Hopkinson may be a good candidate is after-dinner speaker assuming we can pay and entice him down from Yorkshire.
Chris Hopkinson is an ultra-distance cyclist and is one of the very few cyclists to have represented Britain in the RAAM and various 24 hour time trials throughout the world. According to his webpage, he was planning an attempt to beat the LeJOG speed record and gain the title off Gethyn Butler.

Si, assuming tickets are still available (I've just sent Gary Mac a text), will it save a few pennies if Helen gets one from bearwood, calling at harborne and Middle Park Road en route?Si_Walker wrote:Is there anyone going to the dinner, from the Harborne area, that would like to share a taxi?
Any idea what time it normally "wraps up"?

John, thanks for that, the tickets indicate 6.00 until midnight. It was midnight by the time it finished last year. I think there are tickets available, according to Dave Cole (President).

Si and John - I'm going to drive, so can offer you both a lift. Drop me a PM with your address if you want a lift.John D wrote: will it save a few pennies if Helen gets one from bearwood, calling at harborne and Middle Park Road en route?

I can fit another person in, two if they're slim, so if anyone else is coming over from that way and wants a lift, PM me. You just have to put up with a '53' reg corolla and my driving!

If you’re all about the destination, take a f#€king flight!

This year will rock till 0001.... Jules has got me on a promise to get a disco organised. Anyone? Ghetto blaster + cheesy music? Nick Shenton ducked... something about trans-acid-techno-house music not being suitable and having no Abba. As if!
I need a cheesy DJ in a DJ in a box for Saturday night. Help!

Belt up, we're going for a ride
Bit worried that attending tonight may end up costing me more than £30!

Just had a telephone call from Brian Rourke to thank us all for a really great night on Saturday. He said that he couldn't remember when he had been so warmly welcomed and he and Judith felt very much at home amongst us. He was feeling somewhat guilty at having gone on too long and admitted to getting a bit carried away, but he just felt he was having a chat with new friends, he said we should have thrown something at him! I assured him that it was not a problem and that we had quickly got back on track.
He was very impressed that, in this day and age, when many clubs have abandoned their presentation evening, the Beacon could attract such a great turn out.
