Club Run 23 August

Post by petemarshall » 21 Aug 2015 19:14

This Sunday C run to Bewdley, via Clent and Arley return via Trimpley and Lickey beacon, as ever, to finish.
Riverside café or the station if that's to busy ( and we want to see some trains )
Don't think I have taken a ride up Horseshoe Lane yet , other climbs you should all be used to by now and fly up on the big cog.
If the weather is poor I may vary the route accordingly.

I've been given my pass for a Sunday ride so I came and looked to see if there was a B run happening tomorrow but seeing as there isn't one planned I guess if I want one I'll have to lead it myself.

As I haven't much time to think about it, I'm going to have to go for somewhere we've been fairly recently and it'll be Cob House Fisheries.

As I'm leading it'll likely be more of a B- run.

Weather forecast is looking fairly good for the morning with rain arriving around 2ish. I'll check in the morning and think of shortened routes if the forecast has deteriorated.

Keith, you need to set that route to public, only friends can see it right now :)

On the B run today were:

Gareth Powley (L)
Paul Johnson
Ben Sotcks
Jess Dent
Andy Gilman
Matt Byrne

Apart from a minor chain issue it was uneventful and well ordered on the way to the cafe.

On the way back we had biblical rain, a **flat** and a buckled wheel.

Thanks to Paul for making my task of leading much easier by doing a lot of it for me. And thanks to Andy Gilman for his engineering skills!

Well that turned out to be more epic than planed, but at least the Biblical rain washed the mud off, We got split up coming out of Stourport as everybody dived for cover. Hopefully it was just into two groups, thanks to everybody for the company Apologies for any misspelling but the ink had run a bit ,

Many thanks of the ingenious route to Wyre Forest, Keith. Despite living close by to the route, we went down roads never ventured on before.

As ever, great coffee and cake at WFVC.

At least you could have stopped off in Drayton to clean my bike!

C run today
Pete Marshall ( lead )
Si Walker ( lead a big chunk of the return leg in the storm )
Charlie Pearson ( tail gunner )
Huan Dong
Giovanni Del Vecchio
Colin Hall
Mark McConkey
Rob Parker
Mark Gardner

The storm started as we left the café, so Si being wise enough to have both mudguards and strong legs led us most of the way back avoiding some of the climbs I had planned, they will all be back at a later date.

A small incident when a rider demonstrated for us the problems of making a sharp left turn on a steep downhill into a very steep, uphill, off camber, wet and dirty road.

Lot's of riders taking shelter from the Clay pigeon shooting at Kinver. Always amuses me to take riders up there as they are convinced the shooters are after then rather than the clays, but there are some terrible shots around so you never know .

A couple of chains thrown and I had a **flat** just before Day House bank as it started to rain again, just to keep everyone on their toes
See you all again:

Nice C run today Pete. Disappointing not to get up Beacon hill but you got us all back sharply. Look forward to the next lumpy one mate. 8)
