A, B and C club runs - October, November and December - 2016

Post by WorcsPhil » 05 Sep 2016 09:28

It's starting to get cold, and what you need to do to keep warm is to do regular exercise, and there is no finer way than doing this by leading and attending club runs during the last three months of the year.

So, look deep inside yourself and fill this thread with so many offers to lead rides to new and traditional cafes that I have to turn some offers down and gently weep at the enthusiasm of you all.

So, if you are able to lead a club run or two, please post the date and café destination on this thread.

Note: This purpose of this topic is compile the schedule of club runs. Discussion about individual rides, including rider lists, will be done in a separate thread - one for each Sunday.

From Ebrington Velo re 2nd October:

A quick reminder that your club is invited on the first Sunday in October (i.e. 2nd October this year) to the annual Ebrington Cycle Meet for all cyclists in this area. Please join other cyclists and clubs for an end of season chat over coffee/tea and cake in Ebrington Village Hall (near Chipping Campden) anytime from 10.00am to 1.00pm. Refreshments will be prepared and served by the ladies of Ebrington WI who only serve food of the highest quality and at very reasonable prices.

Cyclists who live close, might like to try our informal “Reach for the Skies” route which goes up 4 'character building' hills and some thrilling descents in the 22 miles. The fastest time round the course so far is 1hour 11mins with old timers like me taking nearly 1 hour 40mins. No entry fee - it's for fun. However, Nicholas Cutts from Cutts of Campden has kindly donated two bottles of champagne to be awarded on the day. One is for the fastest rider round the course and the other for the most "spirited" rider, regardless of their time. You can start on your own or with other riders any time between 10.00 am and 11.00 am, riders and bikes are identified by a taped on ticket, timing is by marshal's watch and this year the route will be arrowed by Evesham Wheelers.

All proceeds of the day will go to St Eadburgha's Church, Ebrington.

All local cyclists are invited! Why not make Ebrington your different club coffee stop on that day? All roads are downhill from here!

Further details are available from http://www.ebrington.org.uk/

It's worth mentioning that the 18th December is usually that Christmas Club Run. I am assuming that it will be The Swan at Chaddesley again. I may volunteer to lead this club run nearer to the date subject to other engagements.

I'll take the A run on 23rd October to Clows Top (again, I know - but it's a decent café). Different route - will be going clockwise direction this time. Out via Stourport, Dunley, Abberley & return via Kinlet, Shatterford and Cookley.

I'll lead a Beacon Burst on the 13th November

40-50 mile non stop route with the option of a hot mug of brown at the end or maybe even some pork scratchings and a pint.

Route to be decided but don't expect pan flat!

Pace will be B run

20/11/16

I'll be available to lead an A run again. This time I suggest Croome Park.

I won't ride if conditions are icy.

Plan your route very carefully Mr Shenton..... B*(

There's currently not a leader for the C run on Sunday, but keep an eye on this thread here for updates.

I'm curently following a training plan that calls for a two-hour zone 2 ride on Sunday, so not really compatible with club runs - unless the C run would appreciate doing laps of the Earlswood triangle in the rain. :?

18th December.

A run. Depending upon numbers and the weather, I will take an A run to The Swan. It will be a non-stop run to The Swan via Throckmorton. If the weather is wet and horrible, the route may be shortened with a stop included. If conditions are icy, I'll be having a lie in.

Last year we had sufficient numbers for three club rides. If a small field this year, it may be worth joining with Nick Shenton for Halfpenny Green.

I was wondering whether there might be a club run-style ride on either of the Bank Holidays next week, to make up for Christmas Day falling on a Sunday. Many high street cafés will presumably be closed, but I expect the garden centres will be open, and so might places like Wyre Forest Visitor Centre and Worcester Woods.

Thanks, Neil. That will test my willpower: will I actually get my lazy arse out of bed early enough to turn it into a full-length ride, when I know that I could be there in fifteen minutes?
