It's spring, and with the daffodils and new born lambs, a wonderful sense of warmth envelopes us all. I know how it is, you need a release to this new found energy, and what better way to help your fellow Beacon club member than to ride with, or.... hang on, even better, volunteer to lead a club run during the warmer months. I present to you below an opportunity to do exactly that, so take a look and start posting....runaround now! (I know that dates me :))

If you are able to lead a club run or two, please post the date and café destination below.

As usual...The purpose of this topic is compile the schedule of club runs. Discussion about individual rides, including rider lists, should be done in a separate thread - one for each Sunday. I'll post these threads on the preceding Monday.

16th April

Alternative Club Ride - The Merckx Staffordshire/Shropshire Loop

In the first of a series of alternative club rides for 2017, I'm proposing to lead a ride of approximately 100-120km starting from Stone in Staffordshire, heading South West via Penkridge then onto Newport for a cafe stop before heading North East via Eccleshall for beer at Merckx Belgian Bar en route back to Stone.

Full details to be posted up nearer to the time.

May 21st is the Meriden Cyclists' Memorial Service. I'll take a C Run leaving at 8.30 stop for coffee at Lavender Hall then get to Meriden Green for 11.00 Service to remember cyclists killed in wars since WW1 - cakes in Methodist Hall afterwards. Always option to return from Lavender Hall if you need to get home early.

I'll do a 'burst' on the 16th April aimed at C runners who want to turn it up a bit. There's often some conversation about the gulf between B & C runs so this will hopefully create the feel of a slightly stronger pace over a shorter distance - and this way if your legs fall off you won't be far from home.

I see a number of C runners who could easily manage a 16 mph average with a ride offering an even tempo.

It'll be around 45 miles non stop, normal start time. By no means a training bash and we'll get out of Birmingham at C run pace before turning it up a small notch. I'd say normal runs should go ahead as usual on the day. If there's no support well at least it was an offering.

Not sure how this should be pitched - C/B burst maybe. Current B runners might find the pace a bit on the gentle side so if you're looking to push on this might not be the ride for you. Anyone who half wheels me will be sworn at - so no change there then.

Michael Preece cannot now lead the C club run on the 14th of May because of changing shift patterns. Please would someone else lead it and Mike will do one later in the year. Mike is having difficulty registering on the Message Board so I am passing this message on.
