2018 Racing Plans

Post by Tim » 08 Jan 2018 16:38

Time to reinvigorate this thread after the racing social last week. After chatting to a few people it seems these are some of things we should try and co-ordinate entries for or at least i know there's one member doing and would like company!

Road/Crits
1.
Woolly Mamils. Crits at Stourport in Jan and Feb. 4th cat only, women's, and e/1/2/3 races. At least one person is entered in the 4th only. Often the hardest 4th cats of the year but that's why you should do them as just gets easier!
Still spaces in the 4th only and others for first date this sat
https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/event ... r-Series-1
2.
Birmingham Cycling Club 1day team stage race in Knowle/Solihull on 3rd March. Entries not open yet, keep eye on BC website. This I'd like to do. A TT in morning in Knowle then crit in afternoon at Tudor Grange. I know one or two away cycling in Spain But 3person team time trial in morning so I'm looking for two team mates. There's women's race as well, I think that is individual time trial. Gemma? Helen? Jess could it tempt you back onto a circuit?!
3. South Shropshire league on Thursday evenings. Enter asap if planning to do any. We will need volunteers for the one we organise.
http://www.sssccrrl.co.uk/
4. Birmingham Business Park crits. There's a 3/4, 3only and e/1/2. Ten beacon took part last year so let's dominate the peloton again. I can't make first date but there's to be 6 dates this year between April and September. First one is 8th April, 2nd 18th may, other dates tbc See here:
https://www.facebook.com/BBSE1/
5. No frills at Tudor Grange organised by Solihull. These are 2/3/4s on Weds evenings I think in June. Nearest crit racing and a chance to get several on the start line. It's normally £10 pay on night so need to get there early to bag a place.
6. Stourport Tuesday Night League. Don't think on British cycling website. We organise one of the dates. Here's the format from last year
https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/event ... ort-League

Training:
Wednesdays:
7pm sharp leave front of red lion pub kings heath for a brisk 17-20mph 35miles. Only don't happen if icy.
Saturday's 7.12 (race fast) and 7.15am (almost race fast) Sette Dodici north and south rides. Join the Sette Dodici group on Facebook for info.
British Cycling Thursday nights 7pm at Stourport. Dan and James have been doing these.
Sundays: A pace club runs

Track:
Halesowen Friday Night Track League 5th May to 1st September for ages 6 up.
Details and enter here https://www.halesowencycling.net/single ... ack-League

https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/event ... eague-2018

For adults if you are a track novice best thing to do is arrange your own accreditation at Derby or another track to get some skills and practice before it starts and with accreditation you can definitely do it. Halesowen normally organise their own accreditation too but you need I'd say 3-4 track sessions before doing this.

Saturday 23rd June. Beacon Track Championships
For all ages. Lots of trophies up for grabs. Under 16s on freewheel. A reserve date will be added for if it's rained off.

Saturday 14th July Inter Club Championship v Halesowen and maybe Redditch.
All ages youth and adults who've ridden at Halesowen or any track need to get involved.

Track training/coaching dates:
TBC we hope to book some track time at Halesowen.

Time Trials
Jess I'm sure will post separate info about training and races but I know we plan to do Silverstone again.
The Little Mountain Time Trial is open for entries now, fast, slow or mediocre, novice or experienced get yourself entered!
Enter here: https://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/race-details/16424
Previous write up here and it's even better now
http://www.bikeradar.com/blog/article/t ... ial-21590/
The club time trial calendar is available now too on messageboard. Pain for £3. Bargain.

Cyclo-cross
1. Queen Victoria Cyclo-cross
It's about time we had a big Beacon presence at this unique event for all ages. You get on TV!
Saturday 2nd June
https://m.facebook.com/QueenVictoriaCyc ... ale2=en_GB
http://cyclotours.co.uk/qvcx/
2. All ages, enter the West Midlands Cyclo-cross League in July. It generally runs from late august to September
Details here www.wmccl.org.uk

That's it off top of my head! Post below what you've entered!

P.S. Anyone want to loan some club rollers?

Could everyone racing let me know of races completed, with a link to results if possible before the end of each month so I may continue Laurence's monthly race reports.
A few words about what happened and photos when you have them would be great.
Send them to me at

Someone told me at the weekend that there won't be six races at the Business Park, but three there and three at Curborough, which will be part of the same series. Still, more races at both than in previous years is a good thing.

Just to note also that the stage race is organised by the University of Birmingham CC, not Birmingham CC, in case people are looking for it. The format of the Tuesday Stourport Summer Series is also slightly different to the event in Tim's link, as that is from 2016 rather than 2017. Last year, it was a 4th-cat race, a women's race and a 2/3/4, with the 2nds set off half a lap later than the 3/4s, but I'm not sure what the plans are for 2018.

I need to have a proper look at the calendar, but will likely do the Business Park races, some at Curborough, the Stourport Summer Series on Tuesdays and then on some Thursdays will head down to MK Bowl and other weeks will enter the SSSCCRRL on the line. I've not entered the league this year because I really enjoyed the crits I did at MK towards the end of last season and would like to do more of them.

I shall be doing the SSSCCRRL,2 of the Mamil races and maybe the odd road race on Sat's and the odd Fri track league. I have my kids every weds and every other weekend, so it's all about the scheduling, although most of my free weekends will be doing TT's when the season starts.

I'd like to do Darley Moor and maybe Castle Coombe again once they open, and maybe the last of the Business Park crits, but anything on weds is out.

Going to stick to similar races to this year...

Crits at Business Park, Tudor Grange, Curborough in the summer and any over at Shrewsbury I can get across too. Fancy another dig at Stourport Tuesdays, but depends if I can get across... the later season saturday races were fun there too (if a little boring at times). MK holds deamons for a few of us, so we need to get a crowd over to at least finish the 2/3 race down there this year.

Track will be friday nights when I can earlier in the season and hopefully more later on, with a couple of open track meets thrown in. Will be in the A's this year, so won't be desperate to score points like last season.

I’m intending to do FNTL and cyclocross again this year.

I’ve also entered some mtb races as well, but not sure that info goes here as this is the road/track/cyclocross racing forum!
If you’re all about the destination, take a f#€king flight!

Crits:
Due to the location of my work now, I'll probably be looking to hit up Stourport a fair bit for their weekday races, so we'll see how that goes.
I've enjoyed racing at Curborough in previous years, but I'm going to struggle to make it over there this year I think, just a bit too much of trek, I'll not rule it out though.
Having not done one before, I'll be looking to have a stab at the business park races - at least one of them anyway so I'll climb aboard the band wagon there. I could also do with at least one over at Shrewsbury as that's the last time I won anything.
As mentioned by a couple above, it'd be nice to put the memories of MK to bed so one of those will be in the pipeline.
I'll likely have a bash at some Darley Moor action as well.
Leicester was a nice day out, worth a journey.

Road:
Birmingham Business Park probably technically fall under this catergory.
I'd quite like to get onto a couple of the SSSCCRRL races as well as they're quite unique, but that'll depend on their location etc.
Although very tough and unlikely to get any large points hauls, I'll look at a couple of the West Midland RRL.
I went to the Øverst Plungar (3/4) races a couple of seasons ago, although a bit of a mission, that was quite a good set-up if anybody fancies it.
Bill Jinks and Two Counties are also a good craic if they run this year.

Track:
Having only ever attended a couple of FNTL and having never made the Beacon club events, now that my Derby time has totally dried up, I'll endeavor to attend these.

With all of the above, I'm happy to lift share or ride over with anybody else that is interested.
Cheers,

Stu

There's a 2/3 race (and a 4th) at the MK bowl on the 10th March.... I'll probably do that, or maybe Darley Moor. Think it's the same one that the epic team of Clegg, Passmore, White & Hunt managed not to finsh last year

That was some race!
I'd probably be in favour of Darley Moor if you fancied a lift share

Entries now open for this university of Birmingham TT and crit stage race, 3rd march, annoyingly I can't do as it clashes with youth circuit league. It's individual event for women, 3man team event for men.
https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/event ... Stage-Race

Can we get a couple of mens teams in from Stu, John, Ian, Dan, Roger, Robin, James Tate, James Graemer, Matt Regan? Probably others I've missed. Think Gav, Matt Clegg and Laurence are away.

Main aim this year is TTs, but that said... will get back into some MTB and possibly SSRSSRRRLLLSLSLLL, Brum business park, depends on whether the road racing messes up TT plans! Interested in team events too like Brum Uni and Silverstone 9up!

Get yourselves signed up fella's, it's filling up fast.

So far we have 3 Beacon signed up, so with Ian and Dan, just one more will see 2 teams.
Anybody else interested before I start chasing folk up?

Turns out there are races at MK Bowl four Saturdays running from 3 March: https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events?series_id=408. While I can't make the first one, I'm going to try to make the others if anyone wants to share lifts.

We only need one more for 2 teams, if we don't make that, the 2 not in will be refunded their entry (with the exception of the £1 admin fee).
