Club runs - 15th July
36 riders out on what was probably the hottest day for a club run in many a year. Great to see such a big turnout, so thanks to Nick, Matt and Helen for leading the three runs. Also good to see the C-ride heading out towards the location of the Solihull Road Race, and hopefully you caught some action and cheered on the Beacon riders who were racing. This is a good option for some club runs so be good if these races are publicised here so club runs can come to support when they can.
Bit of a slow speed crash on the A-run caused some scuffs to skin and damage to a bike, and riders are reminded to keep aware at all times when riding in a group, we often brake suddenly if horses, or tractors suddenly appear etc, so keep our wits is critical when we're riding close.
A few other mentions this week of note...six of us rode the Rough Diamond 300kms Audax on Saturday, and I can confirm that Stuart White is riding well just 4 weeks before his Transcontinental Race...some big pulls on the front! Congrats also to Ben Crone and Martin McGowan for amazingly good rides on the Etape du Tour and Marmotte sportives respectively in the French Alps, as well as Paul and Laurie Derbyshire and Andy McGrath (and no doubt, others) on the Velothon Wales...
A special mention also to Gemma Johnson, her TT improvements over the last year are simply wonderful, and winning the Open 10-mile TT on Saturday morning showed she's at the top of her game. Well done, Gem
Of course, there is still a (slight/small/great/big/ f**k-all) chance that it could be England playing in the World Cup Final this coming Sunday (ko is 4pm), but club runs are still planned and should be all done and dusted before this event. This week's rides are:
A: 100 in 8 to Leominster - Paul Johnson (meet at 07:30 for 07:45 start)
B: Draycote Water - James Tate (meet at 08:00 for 08:15 start)
C: Volunteer required

An "undulating" looking route there Paul!
I'm a bit tied for time on Sunday, so have to be back by 12:30 / 13:00 latest. If anyone would like to join me, I will be riding out with the A-ride at 07:45 and then turn after 2 hours will travel south and then join the return route. It will depend very much on how we are progressing (and how tired my legs are after Saturday). Obvious link up points are:
Great Witley (38k)
Stanford Bridge (42k)
Bockleton (63k)
I won't do a cafe stop, but will make a point of having 5mins to eat bars / banana's etc to fuel the journey home. Pace will be A out, more likely B return.

I'm happy to lead the B run to Draycote Water, we'll need an early start of 8.15 to make the most of the day as Draycote is a quite far...but flat route.
