2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Hi everyone
I have created a spreadsheet to help with planning out events for the year and saved it at the link below. The aim of this being that we have an easy to search list of all TT and hill climb events that anyone in the club is doing, to help with car-sharing, team entries, and general moral support on race days
You can all go in and edit it, to either add your name if you are also entering (on the right hand side), or add additional events that you are doing. I have added the first few Beacon club TTs (will add the rest later) as well as a couple of other local club TTs that you might be interested in doing, and several open events.
If you are adding events, please try to add details in all columns if possible to help others who might also want to enter those events, including a link to where the event can be entered (CTT website) or a link to the course if it is a club event. Please also keep it tidy otherwise my excel OCDness will have issues
If anyone from Beacon is interested in having a go at TTs or hill climbs who may not have done one before, please post a message below, or send me a message - it'd be great to get more red and green jerseys TTing this year because it is rather good fun
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Great idea, Jess. Just to check: when I click the link, it says I need to apply for permission to view the file. Is that intentional?
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Hmm no it isn’t, should be open to all - is anyone else having that problem? Laurence is there a ‘request access’ button that you can click?
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
I get the same as Laurence, Jess.
When I share a Google Doc, I click 'Get shareable link', and then the link appears with a pull-down menu above. A suitable option has to be selected from that menu in order to make the document totally public.
I expect that you know all that already, but it's easy to skip a step if you let your attention wander.

Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
All working now. That is one lovely spreadsheet - I'm almost tempted to enter some time trials now!
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Ha thanks Laurence, I was particularly pleased with my ‘days until entry closes’ formula and conditional formatting
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
And the spreadsheet of the year award for 2018 goes to...
Nice work, Jess!
At the risk of triggering a further OCD reaction I would have thought a column noting the event start time would have been a good idea?

Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Too early to give that award. Robin is going to add a calendar feature to the website that every event organiser and racing captain will be able to edit and add events and races like these to, which will make this incredible spreadsheet totally defunct. Maybe.

Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Done . excellent build. I've added a column, will fill in the times for all the events I've added at the weekend
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
As a short and aged trackie I am so impressed with the organisation in the TT section that I am tempted to start doing some this year. On the other hand, they hurt1 Great spreadsheet though.
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Even with the breathtaking web calendar that I'm sure Robin will conjure I think a separate TT organisation calendar is useful and necessary. What we need as a club is an easier way to know who is going to what throughout the year to coordinate lifts / aim for team prizes. I commend Jess for getting this process more centralised - at the very least my current method of 'just asking john where he's going' could do with improvements.

The Silverstone 9-up TTT has been confirmed for 15 June: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php? ... 6765128538.
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Royal Sutton CC have a club TT event next Sunday (18th March) at 10am on the K18/14 (http://www.royalsutton.co.uk/tt/maps/k18_14.shtml). It is officially a 2-up event, but you can also enter as individuals. Xav and I are both doing it - anyone else fancy a warm up 10 mile TT the week before the first Beacon club TT of the year ?
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Might be, yeah! Have to check I'm not away from Brum though, not sure yet. Away for the first Beacon TT so this would be a good replacement!JessRJ wrote: ↑08 Mar 2018 17:34Royal Sutton CC have a club TT event next Sunday (18th March) at 10am on the K18/14 (http://www.royalsutton.co.uk/tt/maps/k18_14.shtml). Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Looks like snow on Sunday morning... Probably not that in to doing a TT effort in those kind of temperatures anyway...
Good luck anyone who does end up braving it!

Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Race cancelled on Sunday unfortunately - hopefully see some of you for the Buxton mountain TT
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Well done to everyone who raced in the Buxton Mountain TT today - the first round of the RTTC Classic Series. Racing in the vets category were Ian Taylor, Keith Adcock and Simon Dighton; Dave McCann raced against the senior men and I raced in the ladies race. Multiple mechanicals was the order of the day, with Ian, Simon and I all having to stop for chain / wheel / derailleur issues, plus I had my first UK drugs testing - an eventful day for all. Full March TT report to follow over the next few days
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs

Can't the hill climb be changed?

Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Ha! Indeed. However being forced to race a big open HC up North (this year the first weekend of October is The Rake) and doing the club champs would make for some sore choices I'm sure!
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Are the conkers ready at that unseasonably early date? Penny putting is OK no matter what the date. (Older members will understand).
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Yes, my tongue was very much in my cheek, David. In reality, I believe that things such as the date of the HC should be decided in the interests of (would-be) participants and organisers. The fact that one or two old geezers (whose only involvement is standing around making comments) hanker after the traditions of their youth is ultimately fairly irrelevant.
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
In reply to George;
How dare you sir. Established and long held traditions like these have deep resonance for "old Geezers".
Yours,
disgusted of Renal, I mean Rednal!

Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Indeed they do, Dave. They have deep resonance for this old geezer too; that's why I made my original quip.
However, a club that in its decision-making attaches greater importance to deep resonance for old geezers than it attaches to the needs of participants and organisers, is a club destined for decline and oblivion.

Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
I agree entirely George. Most aspects of bike riding have greatly improved over time and the only major negatives to lament are the number of vehicles on the roads and the parlous state of said carriageways.
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
So, no new date then?

Eat cake before you're hungry
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Its a long shot but if anyone has put in an entry for Dovers Hill on the 16th Sep I'll have a car, a spare space in said car and a free slot on the bike rack attached to said car - if anyone wants a lift.
Also going down to Bucks for Bison Hill on the 15th and the same invitation stands, although I assume the chances of any beacon riders entering that one are pretty slim. My excuse is I grew up there.

I’m doing Dovers if you want a lift I’ll be driving down with Xav in the van, enough space for one extra passenger and lots of stuff
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Is the HC on Sunday only open to club members? If it isn’t then how much for none beacon riders. Got a friend asking

Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
It's open to non-Beacon members too, for the same price (£3). Technically, I think you have to be a member of a CTT-affiliated club for insurance purposes, but there's some rule about non-club members being allowed to enter one or two events to try out time trialling.
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
September / October open TTs:
Hi everyone
There's a few open TTs still left this year that some of you may be interested in
1. National 50 mile champs (near Leicester) - 29th Sept (ENTRIES CLOSE 11TH SEPT) - may be undersubscribed due to being rescheduled from earlier in the year
2. Closed Circuit Champs (Thruxton motor circuit) - 21st Oct (ENTRIES CLOSE 11TH SEPT) - a few laps of a silky smooth tarmac motor circuit, what's not to like!
3. Shelsley Walsh - 7th Oct (ENTRIES CLOSE 25TH SEPT) - the last hill of the Beacon Little Mountain TT and the location for this year's National Hill Climb champs
There are a few Beacon riders already entered for Closed Circuit Champs and Shelsley Walsh - who has entered so far? Anyone else keen ?
Jess

I realise that I have left it rather late but what time does the hill climb start this morning ? I assume that it is the usual venue, namely Great Farley Woods.

Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
I'll be going up North to ride up the Rake on the 7th most likely. Partly because its an absolute corker of a hillclimb event and partly because all of the main contenders for the Nationals will probably be entering the Shelsley open leaving other climbs that day with a slightly more 'diluted' field for us mere mortals!laurence_cooley wrote: ↑07 Sep 2018 18:163. I'm giving Mark Patton a lift now - Three Beacon riders at an open Hillclimb? Team prize anyone?
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Boom yes ok no problem, will see you there! Debating whether to have a go at it on fixed gear bike...got a monster 25t sprocket, just depends if I can find the right combination of cranks / chainring
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Dooooooo iiiiiitttt! Dovers looks like the perfect climb for a fixie - pretty much only one brand of hell the whole way up. I'd love to but have put all my eggs into an 11sp basket now

Awesome!! Red green and white jerseys out in force!
Re: 2018 Time Trial Calendar - Open TTs, Club TTs, Team TTs and Hill Climbs
Yep , I'll be there - looking forward to it.
On a related note: does any one have a good source for finding when various club events (HC and/or TT) are running? Other than looking at the individual websites of different clubs I don't know how to find out when/where things are happening. Not since events.midlanddc.org.uk stopped being updated at least.
