Club runs - 7th October
Well, that's it. The club run season is over for another year, but wait, the new club run season starts immediately...there's no close season for us!
So, we go again, and what a year we have in store. I can promise rain, sleet, wind, closed cafes, **flat**s and crashes, but can also promise sun, new routes, camaraderie, bacon and a year so full of adventure and fun, you'll need a lie down.
...and this year, club run leaders will receive 3 points...what excitement.
We kick off this week with hopefully 4 rides as follows, but obviously we have the 'Beyond the Dyke' Beacon Audax on Saturday, so there may be a shortage of A or B riders, so this is an excellent week to go into a podium spot on the club run competition by leading in the first few weeks.
Check your diaries, and for Gawd's sake, post to the Oct, Nov and Dec thread to volunteer to lead...I have set myself finding 10 first time leaders in 18/19 so step forward, it what drives the club!
This week's rides are:
A: Evesham - Nick Shenton
B: Shelsley Walsh to either watch the hill climb regional championships or visit the café and ride straight home - Chris Ashford
C: Destination TBC - Carolyn Clegg
Intro ride: Going to Feckenham cafe, led by Pete Norman and supported by Ash Turner

Re: Club runs - 7th October
It would be good to have a leader for the Intro this Sunday. I'll be away so can't lead. We do have at least one rider, Hamaad Raja has posted on Facebook that he would like to do one more Intro.

B Run: Shelsey Walsh 08:15 - Watching The Midland Hill Climb
I will take a steady B run out to Shelsley Walsh, meeting at 08:00 for a 08:15 departure to watch some of the Midland Hill Climbing Championships and support our Beacon riders. This will be post-Beacon Audax, so a steady ride for sure ~90k round trip.
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28706667
We will leave at 08:15 to watch the Women's 11:00-11:30 (Junior / Vet / Senior) and if anyone wants to stay for longer then the Men's (Junior / Vet / Senior) commence from 11:45

If anyone has been before can they confirm the cafe situation? There seems to be a restaurant on site, but don't know about coffee shops etc.

Re: Club runs - 7th October
Can't speak for the facilities at Shelsley Walsh itself but just along the road at Stanford Bridge there is a decent cafe we've visited previously: The Den Cafe Bar.
Re: Club runs - 7th October
There's a good cafe/restaurant at Shesley Walsh no doubt will be busy but is fairly big inside

Happy to ride ‘shot gun’ and help out for one of the leaders on the intro ride. I have a work colleague who fancies a try out....
Re: Club runs - 7th October
I want to watch the hill climb, but there’s no way I’m B run pace atm, so I’ll bimble along and meet you all there.
If you’re all about the destination, take a f#€king flight!

Re: Club runs - 7th October
I'll take a very steady A Run to Raphaels in Evesham.
Re: Club runs - 7th October
Thanks to Nick and Chris...
Another call for a C-ride and Intro leader please...we have lots of C-run guys, but a reluctance to lead, so this might be the week to cross that line...why not also go to Shelsley Walsh, seems the weather is set fair for a pleasant run out to watch the hill climb, and certainly better than for those of us out on Saturday for a 9-hour ride in teeming rain.

Re: Club runs - 7th October
Neil, I hope that we can get to the hill climb for 10:00-10:30 (so people can get food) with the women racing from 11:09-11:25 (with Tessa@11:09 and Jess@11:25 racing) men's is from 11:26-12:30 (with Mark Patton@12:00 Ben Crone@12:07).

I think it will be weather / temperature / group dependent.
Happy to lead back after we have done some cheering, but the route is posted for anyone to go as they wish. Sorry I can't be more specific!

Re: Club runs - 7th October
A very pleasant ride out to Shelsley Walsh to watch the Midland Hill Climbs for the B-run.
A cafe more than capable of coping with a large number of cyclists, and decent prices too. Apologies for the pace which might have been a touch faster than it should have been, but everyone seemed to be ok with the speed and the group stayed together well. And I think there might have been too many hills - but it was a ride to a hill climb;-)
Great to be able to give some cheer to the Beacon ladies (Tessa and Jess), and well done to the gents (Mark and Ben) too!
Riders in attendance:
Chris Ashford (leading)
Nick Haigh
Lauren Turvey
Phil Howard
Paul Astin
Mark Connell
Gemma Johnson
Helen Jamieson
Andy Wrightson

Re: Club runs - 7th October
I rode solo back from Shelsley Walsh due to those darn hills! I kept getting tantalising glimpses of the B run, but alas, could never catch them!

I barely kept up with the Intro Ride esp on the hills. Thanks to Pete for leading ... and tolerating me calling him Phil all day
Well done George, only a matter of time before you’re dropping me in the C runs!

I was on the C run to Earlswood led by Carolyn - nice route (even if a little shorter than a normal C run)...thanks Carolyn
