Club runs - November 4th
Well, what a varied weekend that was. Pride of place goes yet again to Dave Hughes with 3 golds and a silver at the LVRC National Track Championships in Derby...great stuff from our vey own world champion.
Top kudos to Dave, Mark and John for strong performances at the National Hill Climb Championships on the Pea Royd Lane course in Yorkshire, and to all those pedalling on round 6 of the WMCCL (Cross) in the muddy fields of Stonebridge.
Finally, congrats to Tessa Sandberg and Adam Green, who were two of the four at the Red Bull Time laps challenge in Windsor, finishing a creditable 4th in the Mixed Teams competition...fine night riding in bitterly cold conditions.
...and, there were 27 people on the three club runs on Sunday, with bigger thanks to Nick, Phil and Dave for leading. It was a lovely sunny day, albeit a bit cold, and good to see a few new riders joining us...
There was a bit of confusion as to who was going to lead the B-ride on the day, but Phil Gameson duly did, so hopefully Richard Leaper can return the favours this week...This week's rides are:
A: Beacon Burst 50miler with no cafe stop - Paul Johnson
B: Possibly Richard Leaper
C: Volunteer required
Intro ride: Dave Cox will lead a ride to Earlswood - support rider would be useful

Re: Club runs - November 4th
Dave..... remember me....? I’m seriously interested in coming out ... but 1. I haven’t cycled for about 15 years... 2. I’ve got rid of my bikes.... 3. I sat on my racing skinny tyre Bianchi and felt extremely wobbly/ nervous to say the least a couple years ago. I even went to Red Kite and had a look at some Trek bikes.... few weeks ago. where to start ? Need to invest in a comfortable bike.

Hi Faye - it's great that you are thinking of returning to cycling. You will be very welcome. Many of us come back to cycling and to the Beacon after long breaks. Yes you'll need a bike though and probably worth getting used to it a bit before you try a group ride. I'm sure Red Kite can advise you if you tell them what you want it for.

Hi Faye. Has it really been 15 years. How Time flies. Thought that you. Like me, would rather be playing tennis
As I remember your Bianchi was a really nice bike. I'm sure that a couple of short ride would see you regain your confidence. Apparently fat tyres (28mm) are the way forward for comfort.
Best of luck.
May see you at a café one Sunday.
All the best.

Disc brakes or Caliper ?
Re: Club runs - November 4th
Most people going for discs but some are better than others apparently. I've not got my head around them so have stuck to callipers

Re: Club runs - November 4th
Well that didn't quite go to plan! Just 3 riders came out on the B Run; however it transpired that Jon Sadler and Nick Barrand (hope I've got the names right) were intending to peel off the back and head home for 12:30 which would have left just me! So I improvised a loop NW of Kinver to make it another Beacon Burst, only for Nick's chain to snap just past Kinver leaving him in need of a lift! So whilst Nick trudged off to wait at a nearby café (hope you got back OK), myself and Jon carried on past Kidderminster, Bluntington and Belbroughton to get in 40-odd lumpy miles before lunchtime.
Not the weather I ordered either

Didn’t get a good look at his horn () and I bow to your greater experience in these matters but I assumed it was a bugler getting some practice in for next weekend.Dave Cox wrote: ↑04 Nov 2018 14:21Intro Ride to Earlswood
