CLUB RUNS - 25th November

Post by Philip Whiteman » 19 Nov 2018 14:14

Whilst Phil Richards is still serving out his conviction at the penal colony breaking rocks and sewing mail-bags, I am posting the club runs notice in his absence. Let's hope that the parole board see fit to return Phil back to home via the next sailing from Botany Bay.

Twenty-six members ventured out on the latest club runs and we were pleased to welcome some new faces on Beacon club runs. Hopefully you were not deterred by the interminable discussions on the latest ceramic bottom brackets. I only jest of course, the discussions were probably focussed upon the exciting Beacon Audax events for 2019.

So for this coming Sunday:

A Run: Cropthorne - Philip Whiteman
B Run: Kenilworth - Matt Hale
C Run: Kenilworth: Pete Norman

Club runs depart from the Black Horse PH, Bristol Road South. Dep: 09:00 for 09:15

A Run to Cropthorne

Philip Whiteman L
Paul Johnson
Nick Shenton
Neil Orchards
Phil Elwell
Ian Simpson
John Hitchcock
Spencer Tapia
Dave Hughes
Niel Lynch
Pol Pot

Cropthorne Cafe was a pleasant new venue. Prices were slightly expensive, service slightly slow but a good option for club run destinations.

Road conditions were greasy in places through a combination of damp and general dirt as Dave Hughes discovered to his cost. Unfortunately Dave slid on the turn into Timberhonger off Berry Lane. Being a tough old boot he recovered quickly whereas I would be crying for my Mammy. Initial damaged appeared to be a slightly damaged helmet and probable bruising. Spencer also came off as collateral damage but appeared ok.

Nick Shenton **flat**d his tubulars but failed to please those seeking to deride this new fangled technology with the hole quickly sealing itself.

tubular, new fangled and sealed itself? Certainly new fangled tubulars that seal themselves, where do I go to buy ?

Perhaps tubeless?

C Ride

Note to self - find a different route out of Kenilworth! No through road means just that!

Kudos and Intrepid Explorer Badges to the team for trekking off road, through fields and woods, Order of the Muddy Boot to me!

Apologies this rarely happens on club rides! Thank you for trekking on in good humour!

On the 'B' ride:

Matt Hale
Si Walker
Si Turner
Ade McHugh

We used the same route as the C ride, but stopped at Time for Tea instead.

We also started off down the private road, but turned round and rerouted.

Pete... thanks for the route, might be worth editing it (avoiding the off-road section) in case anyone wants to copy the route in the future 😉
