Club Runs - 2nd December

Post by WorcsPhil » 26 Nov 2018 09:32

My escape from Australia was so finger-bitingly exciting and seat-of-the pants tense that involved a submarine, a long handled axe and the left knee of a wombat, that it will one day be made into a film...probably starring Ben Affleck. Albeit Ben Affleck may have to spend a long time in make-up.

Big thanks for Lord Whiteman for posting all club run info in my absence, and bringing his own wit and persuasive powers to hand...thanks Phil.

So, what's been happening? It's been cold but we seem to be getting around 25 riders each week, and it's good to see new riders meshing nicely with the 'old-hands'. It's the big Beacon awards night this Saturday night, so attendance may be affected the next day for this week's club runs, but if you're not going to the awards night, or fancy motivating yourself, why not step forward on what might be a quiet week.

This week's rides will be:

A: Destination TBC - Nick Shenton
B: Leader and destination wanted
c: Leader and destination wanted

Intro Ride: Avoncroft Museum Café, led by the indomitable Dave Cox

I’ll take an alcohol fuelled post Beacon Awards night A Run for a greasy fry up.

Just a thought for ride leaders:
This Sunday there's a cyclocross meeting at the Cob House near Martley, which several Beacon people will be competing in. Is it an idea to take a run there and combine refreshments with giving our riders a shout?

(I would volunteer myself, but can't see myself getting up early enough after the Dinner to get into B'ham by 9am.)

Timings of the West Midlands CX championship

9.15 - U6, U8 - 10 mins race

9.30 - U10’s - 15 mins race

9.55 - U12’s - 15 - 20 mins race

10.20 - 10.40 - Official Course Practice (sections of the main course will be accessible during the prior races)

10.40 - Youth - 30 mins race

11.25 - Vet 50+ - 40mins race

12.15 -12.40pm - Official Course Practice

12.40 - Womens - 40 mins race

13.35 - Vet 40+/ Junior - 40 mins race

We should have riders in the U6, 8 10 and perhaps 12.
The V50
Seniors and perhaps the women's so plenty of races with Beacon riders.

Dave do you have the route for the intro ride? I fancy going out Sunday but I can’t face 50 miles, 30 sounds perfect

I'm planning to be out on Sunday but I think I will join on the intro ride as it will be my first club ride since getting back on the bike from my knee surgery.

Have a good time lads. I loved doing the last few A runs and looking forward to doing more. I've got to catch up on some work this weekend and then I'm away on overseas travels with work (apart from xmas when I'm down South) until February (when I shall re-emerge... )

Intro ride is out via Barnt Green, Tardebigge, Woodgate, Stoke Prior, Avoncroft, back up Upper Gambold Lane and Dusthouse lane perhaps over Lickeys. We did it on 2nd Sept so it's on Strava. Big good to see you both and Ade again!

I'll lead the B run to Charlecote unless anyone else steps forward to lead.

I'll post a route later today, but it will almost certainly be between 55 and 60 miles and not too hilly.

On the B run were:
Phil Gameson (Leader)
Andy McGrath
Clare Fudge
Brett Henshaw
Richard Leaper

It started raining on Quarry Lane and I thought that perhaps my choice of bike and clothing had been unwise. But then it cleared up and was actually quite pleasant. The wind seemed to pick up a bit, but it appeared to keep changing direction!

On today’s blustery A Run to Alcester were:

Nick Shenton (Leading)
Andy (Audax) Wrightson
Ben Crone
Neil Lynch
Vince Tenant
Phil Elwell
Matt Reagan
Spencer Tapia

Nothing out of the ordinary on today’s ride. Phil had a flat on the way out and the mythical tail wind was short lived on the return home.

Thanks to all for today’s ride, the comapny and banter was great as usual.
