Club runs - 31st March
it's much nicer to cycle in nice weather, eh? ... and Sunday was a taster of the many warm Sundays to come, so thanks to the 4 leaders for putting yourselves up there. Very popular B and C rides led by Nick Shenton and Si Walker respectively, set out in different directions, but spare a thought for Chris Ashford who rode a solo 200 with not even his mum out at the café to cut the fat off his bacon...sorry, Chris, a few of the long distance regulars just weren't available or were 200'ed out after a long midweek ride. Thanks also to Helen for leading the women's ride on Saturday, and the interesting feedback on rider standards. I bleated on about this last week, of course, so I'll be keen to hear of high or low riding standards in the coming weeks, so we can strive to be an organised set of cyclists on the road.
Kudos this week to all those on the Mad March Hare Sportive, an excellent locally-run sportive, who changed the route this year to cover many of our regular climbs and haunts, and great to see that they got nice weather for a change, as they seem to always coincide with locusts, pestilence and biblical rain!
We have a couple of weeks of nice weather ahead, so why not volunteer to lead IN ADVANCE? This week's rides are:
A: Pershore - Neil Orchard
B: Clows Top - Richard Leaper
C: Evesham - Dave Cox

Re: Club runs - 31st March
I'll lead an A run to Pershore this week, around 64 miles, 3400ft elevation.
Re: Club runs - 31st March
With the weather looking dry and mild on Sunday, please can we have a B and C ride leader, please. I know it's mother's day, so if you're time restricted why not put forward a shorter than normal club run, as this might be quite popular this week.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Club runs - 31st March
I'll do a C Run to Evesham it's about 60 miles a few hills but won't be fast !
Re: Club runs - 31st March
Following some gentle encouragement from Mr Woodward, I'll lead a ride to Clows Top. The route out is a hilly one via Bewdley, Button Oak and Cleobury Mortimer. On the way back, we'll go via Heightington and Stourport. I'll post a route if I can.
It's a hilly one with arrival time around 11:30-11:45, so best eat your breakfast first! Back at Black Horse around 2:30pm so a bit later than normal.
Hoping for more than one taker this time (in addition to Mr Woodward, that is)!

The cafe I was going to use isn't open tomorrow so bring a bike lock if you have one.

Re: Club runs - 31st March
When you get back from your club run today, please contact Chris Hudson or James Tate to volunteer their service to support our prestigious time trial event next week, The Little Mountain Time Trial.
We get out of the club, what we put in.

Re: Club runs - 31st March
Currently on the train back home. My (presumably misaligned) rear derailleur caught a spoke and got ripped clean off Despite Si Woodward's best efforts, my bike didn't work as a fixie, so a walk/roll into Bewdley and then public transport was the best I could manage.
Hope the rest of the ride went more smoothly for the remaining three on the B Run.

Re: Club runs - 31st March
We had a couple of mechanicals on the B ride today to Clows Top. A set of misaligned brakes and a mangled derailleur. We were able to sort the brakes but failed to fix the derailleur so lost our leader before we got to the café. Glad to see that Richard made it back OK.

Re: Club runs - 31st March
Somewhat extended C Run to Evesham (definitely not via Bewdley!!)
Dave Cox (Leading)
Kamran Anwar - good to meet you Kamran on your first Beacon ride
Joanne Congerton
Finbarr Costigan
Cedric Gioan
Geoff Mann
Mark McConkey
Adrian McHugh (sweeping)
Pete Norman started with us from Black Horse but had an early return via Bishampton
David Stephenson
George Barker met us at the cafe.
We also saw several Beacon members on the Midlands 100 Raphaels coped well with the rush.
Mostly incident free apart from an outbreak of incompetent careless driving between the Chalet Roundabout and Barnt Green - mainly putting on coming cars in danger. One clip malfunction hedge dive but no injuries

Re: Club runs - 31st March
Oops! Hard luck, Richard. As you say, must have been misaligned. Sometimes what happens is that you think it's okay on the work stand, but in use the wheel flexes a little as you throw the bike, causing contact.
Re: Club runs - 31st March
Thanks. A work stand would come in handy!
Re: Club runs - 31st March
Whoops just shows how addled my brain is at the end of a good club run. Now edited. Funny that none of the guys riding it were sharp enough to pick it up. Thanks for this. I'd hate the club archives to have an error to confuse future historians.
