Club Runs - 14th April

Post by WorcsPhil » 08 Apr 2019 10:32

Congratulations to all the organisers, marshals, timekeepers and riders of course at the Little Mountain Time Trial on Sunday. This is perhaps, Beacon's most prestigious event, and a big thanks to James Tate for taking on the organisation this year! There were lots of other Beacon volunteers there, to ensure a great day that puts Beacon's name up there in lights. Top riding from many Beacon members, with particular credit to Matt Clegg as second fastest road bike, behind (friend of this parish) Richard Bussell, and to Ian Taylor for the most improved rider, taking some 12 minutes off his time last year, all the time wearing a warm smile of pleasure the whole way around. Congratulations to all the riders. Amazing that someone can ride that route in 1hour 29mins, a new course record...

Well done also to all those who raced at the Birmingham Business Park on Saturday, and to the five Beacon riders at least on various 300kms audaxes over the weekend, the qualification rides for Paris-Brest-Paris (1200kms audax in France in August) are now coming thick and fast so watch out for them on strava. We hope to have Beacon's biggest every attendance at PBP this year.

Anyway, enough of last week, club runs are back this week! Hoorah, and we only need a B-ride leader for a full house, so you know what to do! This week's rides are:

A: Clive's fruit farm (Upton not Cropthorne) - Phil Richards (meet at 08:15 for 08:30 depart)
B: Wolverley - Matt Hale
C: Charlecote - Colin Groves (meet at 08:15 for 08:30 depart)

Women's ride on Saturday: Details here and on facebook.

Destination for the C ride will be the Charlcote garden centre cafe.

In a selfish attempt to be back a little earlier, and in the hope that it'll be a bit quieter on the roads getting out of Birmingham, I'd like to leave the Blackhorse by 08:30 please.

56 miles BH to BH. Out via Ullenhall, Little Alne and Snitterfield, return via Norton Lindsey, Lowsonford and Tanworth in Arden.

Thanks

...and the destination for the A-ride on Sunday is Clive's fruit farm just outside Upton. I've phoned the café and they're ready for us. If there is too many, I may need to divert elsewhere... As it's 45 miles to the café, I will also leave the Black Horse at 08:30, so please gather at 08:20. Slightly longer ride than normal, so layer up it may be cold first thing...

Here's the route.

Put me down to lead the B ride... destination likely to be Wolverley. Approx 50 miles, out via Stourport & Bewdley, return via Kinver and Clent. Slightly longer outward journey

On today's C ride were

Colin Groves (L)
Neil Evanson
Andrew Nott
Laurie Derbyshire
Mark McConkey
Cedric Gioan
Kamran Anwar
Geoff Mann

Simon Woodward and Roger Green also attended on the tandem but unfortunately their chain snapped around the back of Ullenhall so they decided to repair and divert elsewhere.

Thanks all for an enjoyable ride...and apologies for periodically flashing my thighs.

On the B-ride today:

Matt Hale (L)
Toby Hale
Ewan Hamnett
Alistair Hey
Ka Li
Pete Norman

Thanks all - fairly fast on the way out, aided by a tailwind. Headwind and hillier on the way back.

...and on the A-ride today to Clive’s Fruit Farm just outside Upton were:

Paul Johnson
Neil Lynch
Noel O’Dwyer
Phil Richards (Leading)
Donald Tusk
Jon Williams
Andy Zero Wrightson

An excellent day out to a little used cafe, but reserving the table helped and service was brisk (in and out in 30 mins), so we can recommend this for a slightly longer than normal club run cafe.

Kudos for Noel on his first A-Ride making it all the way for almost his longest ever ride...excellent prep for Velo Birmingham, Noel.
