Club Runs - 22nd September

Post by Philip Whiteman » 16 Sep 2019 09:28

Phil Richards is away cutting down trees, eating my lunch, going to to the lavatory, on Wednesdays he goes shopping and has buttered scones for tea. So it is my duty to post the club run details.

Sunday gone saw some incompetent navigation by myself including several missed junctions and various circuits of Ilmington just to find the cafe but it was all fun, with Paul Johnson in heaven talking about his favourite topic. Meanwhile, made a better fist of things by leading the C run to Charlecotte.

Needless to say, this is my posting and should be customarily grumpy. As ever, we have plenty of riders willing to participate on club runs yet are seemingly unable to step up to the plate. With widespread use of GPS, there is no excuse for sitting on your hands. If unsure on routes and destinations, we have a club run database to which Pete has added some more downloads.

Club runs leave the Black Horse at 9.15 prompt unless otherwise stated.

A Run - Nick Shenton - Destination tbc
B Run - Please volunteer to lead by choosing a destination and formulate a route. Don't leave it to others.
C Run - Please volunteer to lead by choosing a destination and formulate a route. Don't leave it to others.

Clun Run Database can be found here

Hopefully all Sunday's runs will include half an hour at Romsley encouraging participants in the hill climb, which starts at 10am. Many people like to go to Waseley Hills for a cuppa after the event.

FYI - the cafe at Waseley Hills is currently closed. I believe they are looking for a new tenant

With regard to the hill climb, it is unusual for club runs to take place on the same day. The above listing was based upon club run schedule posted by Phil some weeks ago. If there is an official position on club runs vis-a-vis the hill climb then it is a for a senior committee type person to make a judgement in Phil's absence as club run secretary. It's not my call.

Thanks for pointing that out, Matt.

Can anyone suggest a good alternative?

The tradition is that as many people as possible participate in the h/c, and as many of the non-participants as possible help or encourage. People who aren't racing often go for a shortish burst-style ride ending at the hill just before 10am. Then everyone adjourns to a nearby café after the racing, typically at about 11am.

It's a very sociable tradition, which brings racers and non-racers together, and personally I'd like it to continue. But I'm not a great believer in edicts; people should do these things because they perceive there to be value in them.

In the interests of keeping to club traditions for the Hill Climb Championships, this Sundays ride will be a burst ending at the Hill climb around 10’ish.

As a 9:15 start will give little time for a decent ride I propose an 8:15 start from the BH.

Route to be decided unless the club secretary decided to cancel club runs this weekend.

Tomorrow's weather looks positively awful but i'll still be heading over to the BH for an 8:15 start for a non stop ride.

The route looks something like this but may be cut short if time/weather is against us getting to the hill climb.

Given my lack of riding this week it's unlikely to be a thrash fest & It will be a wet weather bike type of day anyway.
